YUKON, CANADA: A US F-22 fighter jet shot down an unidentified flying object (UFO) on Saturday, February 11, said Canadian president Justin Trudeau. White House confirmed that Trudeau and US President Joe Biden authorized the shoot-down and the Pentagon said the object was first spotted over Alaska on Friday evening, February 10.

Trudeau wrote on Twitter, "I ordered the take down of an unidentified object that violated Canadian airspace. @NORADCommand shot down the object over the Yukon. Canadian and US aircraft were scrambled, and a US F-22 successfully fired at the object." He added, "I spoke with President Biden this afternoon. Canadian Forces will now recover and analyze the wreckage of the object. Thank you to NORAD for keeping the watch over North America." While the White House said in a statement, "The leaders discussed the importance of recovering the object in order to determine more details on its purpose or origin," reports Reuters.

US F-22 shot down object in Canadian territory

Commenting on it, Pentagon spokesman Brig Gen Patrick Ryder said the object that got shot down was first noticed over Alaska on Friday evening, February 10. Two F-22 fighter jets “monitored the object” with the help of the Alaska Air National Guard. He said, as quoted by CNN, “Monitoring continued today as the object crossed into Canadian airspace, with Canadian CF-18 and CP-140 aircraft joining the formation to further assess the object. A US F-22 shot down the object in Canadian territory using an AIM 9X missile.” He further added, “As Canadian authorities conduct recovery operations to help our countries learn more about the object, the Federal Bureau of Investigation will be working closely with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police."

Prior to the shoot-down, in a statement on February 11, NORAD and the US northern command said they, along with the Alaska National Coast Guard, FBI, and local law enforcement, were conducting search and recovery activities for the object. The statement read, “At the direction of the President of the United States, fighter aircraft assigned to US Northern Command successfully took down a high altitude airborne object off the northern coast of Alaska at 1.45 pm Eastern Standard Time Feb 10 within US sovereign airspace over US territorial water." It further read, "Arctic weather conditions, including wind chill, snow and limited daylight are a factor in this operation, and personnel will adjust recovery operations to maintain safety. Recovery activities are occurring on sea ice. We have no further details at this time about the object, including its capabilities, purpose or origin.” The shooting down of the objects over Canada and Alaska comes a week after the shoot-down of a suspected Chinese surveillance balloon on February 4 by a US F-22 fighter jet.

Following the update, an 'Alien invasion' theory started trending with one of many asking, "The US has just closed airspace over North Central Montana. What in the UFO alien invasion is going on?" Another said, "Project blue beam in full effect." One more wrote, "Preparing for fake Alien invasion by using Project Blue Beam nothing else."

A user tweeted, "'Small Cylindrical Object' floating over Canada and Alaska. Either China or Russia has some unknown flying technology or #alien life is upon us." While an individual shared a meme writing, "Me after seeing another UFO being shot down knowing the apocalypse is imminent."

What is Project Blue Beam?

According to Poynter, Project Blue Beam is a conspiracy theory about the New World Order which has existed since the year 1994. As per the theory, NASA and the UN began developing technology that would be able to project images into the sky over the entire Earth, states A Little Bit Human. The technology allegedly involved using satellites orbiting the Earth to project an image that could be seen by an entire nation or an entire world.
