What is Mamas for DeSantis? Casey DeSantis warns her ‘claws come out' when government targets ‘our children’
JOHNSTON, IOWA: Florida first lady Casey DeSantis told Iowa voters that her “claws come out” when government policies come after her children. The 43-year-old wife of 2024 Republican presidential candidate and Florida Gov Ron DeSantis made the comments during her first solo campaign appearance on Thursday, July 6 when she launched the nationwide version of their "Mamas for DeSantis” grassroots group.
“It’s one thing when your policies come out after us – the mamas. It’s another thing when they come after our children. And that’s when the claws come out,” the former TV news journalist remarked, sitting next to Republican Iowa Gov Kim Reynolds in a crowded barn in Johnston, Iowa. She emphasized her husband's "war on woke," applauding him for his COVID policies that kept the state open and valuing parents above teachers. “It was COVID that was really what led to a lot of this parental empowerment revolution because for the first time, parents were peering into the classroom, and they did not like what was being taught they saw – the sexualized curriculum being thrust in front of five-year-olds,’” DeSantis told the crowd, according to NY Post.
What is Mamas for DeSantis?
During her solo campaign, DeSantis launched the nationwide version of her Mamas for DeSantis initiative. A strong arm for her husband’s re-election campaign, Casey launched Mamas for DeSantis in June 2022 to mobilize mothers and grandmothers across Florida. The group initially aimed to sign up 1 million "mamas" but reached 1.1 million on Election Day, according to the campaign. Now, Casey has launched the nationwide version of her initiative to harness that kind of support during the Florida governor’s 2024 presidential run.
We will not allow you to exploit the innocence of our children to advance your agenda.

On the DeSantis campaign website, a page dedicated to Mamas for DeSantis states that it "is uniting millions of fired-up mamas ready to stand up for their children's futures and put an end to the woke mob's hostile takeover of parents, children, and families across the nation." Two hours prior to the event, Casey DeSantis tweeted a two and half minute video montage that featured young children sobbing while donning masks, Dr Anthony Fauci discussing the need to close venues in the event of a coronavirus pandemic, and transgender swimmer Lia Thomas standing on a college podium. This video echoed many of the cultural war points her husband makes in his campaign speeches.

‘I believe in him’
In her last remarks, Casey DeSantis reiterated her steadfast support for Ron DeSantis, not just because he is her spouse but also because she firmly believes in his leadership and vision. "As long as I have breath in my body I will fight for Ron DeSantis - not just because he's my husband; that is part of it - but it's because I believe in him," she vowed, adding, "If you want somebody to go up to Washington DC to clean house, to be able to put this country back on the trajectory where we are talking about - our rights coming up from our creator and our government being put in place to protect the rights that are ours, he is the man to do it and if I have to crisscross this country, I'll do it."
