Who is a diversity tsar? Queen wants to introduce new role to modernize monarchy after Meghan Markle interview
The fallout following Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's bombshell interview continues to be a talking point among royal experts. In a new step towards showing the world that the Royal households are in fact not racist, Queen has reportedly decided to appoint a diversity chief that the media has dubbed diversity tsar.
It has also been revealed that this move shows that "more needs to be done to champion minorities" post the claims that Meghan and Prince Harry made of racism in the Royal Family. The Royal houses – Buckingham Palace, Clarence House and Kensington Palace – will take part in the huge drive. The drive will include "listen and learn" exercise for aides in the coming week where a range of topics including speaking to a range of businesses and individuals about how the Monarchy can improve representation will be held.

According to a report in Daily Mail, plans that they had seen revealed that the palace would "seek independent views". This is expected to help the staff learn how to improve their approach on diversity, and this will include different sections of the population including ethnic minorities, the disabled and the gay and trans communities.
A royal source has been quoted as saying, "This is an issue which has been taken very seriously across the Households. We have the policies, procedures and programs in place but we haven't seen the progress we would like and accept more needs to be done. We can always improve."
This source also further added, "We are not afraid to look at new ways of approaching it. The work to do this has been underway for some time now and comes with the full support of the family." It was also revealed that a diversity chief who would champion for the cause may be recruited and this is expected to help further reform the changes that are being improved upon.
The need of the hour is to show that the royal family and their staff are very serious about the concerns that Prince Harry and Meghan had raised in their interview with Oprah Winfrey. At the time, Meghan had claimed that members of the family had wondered what Prince Archie would look like, and had spoken about the same to Prince Harry, which was also confirmed by the Duke of Sussex.
After Meghan revealed this, Oprah had asked, "Because they were concerned that if he were too brown, that that would be a problem? Are you saying that?" To this, Meghan responded, "I wasn't able to follow up with why, but if that's the assumption you're making, I think that feels like a pretty safe one." One of the things that the couple had also revealed was that racism was a big part of the reason why they had decided to move to California.
