What does 'America's Got Talent' winner receive? Real story behind giant check under golden shower of confetti
PASADENA, CALIFORNIA: Season 19 of 'America's Got Talent' (AGT) is almost here. Since Adrian Stoica won Season 18 with his dog, Hurricane, people have been curious about the benefits of winning the championship.
Every year, hundreds of artists compete for the title of 'AGT' champion. Last season's winner received a $1 million cash prize and the opportunity to lead a concert at the prestigious Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada.
However, those who remain tuned until the final seconds of the closing credits know that the winner of 'AGT' does not become an immediate millionaire. A section of the disclaimer states: "The prize, which totals $1,000,000, is payable in a financial annuity over forty years, or the contestant may choose to receive the present cash value of such annuity."
This implies that the winner has the option of receiving $25,000 per year for 40 years or taking the annuity's present cash value, which was around $300,000 before taxes in 2011, according to Forbes.
Who won 'America's Got Talent' Season 18?
Adrian and his dog, Hurricane, won 'AGT' on September 27, 2023. The winners were announced after a performance of Queen's 'Crazy Little Thing Called Love'.
Judge Sofia Vergara also appeared briefly on stage with Adrian during the performance. The 'AGT' winner often receives a lot of notoriety from the program, which may help begin their career.
This season, Anna DeGuzman finished second, with the dance ensemble Murmuration taking third.
Does second place on 'America's Got Talent' win anything?
Second-place finishers on 'AGT' are not awarded a monetary reward. However, as part of a sponsorship agreement, several runner-up candidates were given rewards, such as a new automobile. The remaining contenders leave empty-handed.
Do the 'AGT' contestants get compensated by NBC?
The talent contract states that appearing on 'AGT' does not "constitute a professional appearance". Performers are not entitled to "wages, salary, or other compensation."
'AGT' provides participants with travel and living expenses during shooting. The producer will cover accommodation expenses as well as ground transportation to and from the airport and all production places.
Contestants who live more than 300 miles from the greater Los Angeles region will be reimbursed for two hotel nights as well as a $25 per diem. All additional expenditures, including meals, are solely the burden of the participant.
Performers are also given a $400 outfit budget for every episode. If they decide to spend more, it is their obligation to cover the difference.
'America's Got Talent' Season 19 will premiere on May 28, 2024, at 8 pm ET on NBC
