‘The Mole’ is an adaptation of a Belgian reality show titled ‘De Mol’, that first aired in 1998. The format of the show has been used in 40 countries worldwide. The most prevalent version is ‘Wie is de Mol?’, from the Netherlands, which has been going for 22 seasons since 1999. The US, too, had its version of the show, which aired in 2001. But after the first two seasons aired, it was canceled owing to low ratings. Journalist Alex Wagner will host Netflix's reboot of the show. Some other shows that Netflix has rebooted in recent years include ‘House of Cards’, 'Gilmore Girls’ and ‘Fuller House’.

‘The Mole’ is all set to premiere on Friday, October 7, 2022, at 12 am PT. It will have 10 episodes which will release weekly on Fridays.

The reboot will be hosted by reputed journalist Alexandra Swe Wagner. She is of Burmese-American heritage and has starred on shows such as ‘Alex Wagner Tonight’, ‘Now with Alex Wagner’, and ‘The Circus’. She is also the author of ‘Futureface’, where she discusses her Burmese roots. Alex is married to former White House nutrition policy advisor and assistant chef Sam Kass. The wedding was attended by the 44th President Barack Obama and his family. Alex has two children as of now.

The Mole’s cast includes people from all walks of life. It will feature Avori Henderson, a professional gamer, Casey Lary, an ICU nurse, and Dom Gabriel, a heavy machine operator. Greg Shapiro, a marketing consultant, and firefighter paramedic lieutenant Jacob Hacker are also part of the cast, along with commercial airline pilot Joi Schweitzer. The show will also have contestants Kesi Neblett, a software designer, and real estate agent Osei White, both from New York, along with law firm associate Pranav Patel, mental health counselor Samara Joy, ABA therapist Sandy Ronquillo, and a lifestyle brand manager from Nevada, William Richardson.
What is ‘The Mole’ all about?
Players on ‘The Mole’ gather to complete assignments to earn money for the group pot. But among them, one of the players is the titular “Mole”, designated to sabotage the assignments and cause the group to earn the least money for the winner’s pot. The players will also take multiple-choice tests about the identity of the “Mole”; the player with the worst score in their assessment will be disqualified. The player with the highest score is declared the winner and receives the group’s pot. The Mole’s identity will only be revealed in the series finale.
What is the buzz around ‘The Mole’?
In August 2022, it was announced that Netflix would release a reboot of the original show. Fans are excited for the return of the survival show, over a decade since the cancellation of the original.
