'Real heroes': West Virginia coal miners HAILED for towing stranded tourist's electric car after it ran out of charge
TUCKER COUNTY, WEST VIRGINIA: Randy Smith, a coal miner and Republican senator from West Virginia's 14th Senate District, described a fascinating incident that occurred on Friday, September 2, 2022, that made netizens hail the coal miners.
In Tucker County, an electric vehicle's battery ran out of power and it came to a stop in front of the Mettiki Coal access road. Fortunately for the stranded out-of-town driver, miners from the fossil fuel mine were prepared to assist.

"Some days are just better than others," Smith wrote in a Facebook post. "Today at our mine off Corridor H an electric car from DC ran out of battery at the road entrance to the mine. Someone called one of our foremen and told him a car was broke down in the middle of our haul road," Smith added. "He went to investigate and found out they had indeed ran out of juice coming from DC to Davis for a getaway weekend."
The electric vehicle had "all plastic underneath and nothing to hook up to," which prevented the foreman from towing it behind a truck.
To get some workers to assist in pushing the electric car to the guard house, the foreman proceeded to the coal mine. The electric car was then pushed into the coal mine by five miners, which was captured on camera.
"If you look closely you can see our coal stockpile and load out in the background," Smith explained. He noted, "This just shows you coal miners are good people and will go out of their way to help anyone friend or foe."
Smith added that he was "honestly glad" the miners assisted because the tourist driver would have been marooned since he wouldn't be able to get a tow truck "out in the middle of nowhere." Smith teased, "One guy even dropped off a 'Friend of Coal' license plate when he left to go home. Lol."
The image of the five coal workers pulling the electric car quickly gained popularity on social media, with netizens praising the coal workers for their help. A user commented, "Great story. God bless our coal miners." Another user said, "Glad that some people are still in the business of helping others! Well done!" A third remarked, "I have always had a deep respect for coal miners. They are some real heroes that’s for sure!"
