Spoilers for ‘We Hunt Together’ Season Finale

At the end of the six-episode run of Showtime's 'We Hunt Together', Freddy (Hermione Corfield) and Baba (Dipo Ola) hatch a masterplan of sacrifice and outrunning the cops. They don't escape, but Baba pretends to murder Freddy and confess right before succumbing to his wounds. Freddy is found as a hostage and she comes out a survivor of coercion and unwitting compliance. But despite Baba’s grand sacrifice, right when one might feel that Freddy is escaping, Lola (Eve Myles) finds out something so incriminating, it’s almost damaging. Here’s how the dominoes fall for Freddy.

How ironic would it be that Freddy would find herself falling back to the same past she had shed for vicious revenge. After murdering her friend, the real Freddy Lane, Lily, who is now Freddy, coped with her actions by pretending the real Freddy had committed suicide after being abused by their principal. So Freddy pushed said principal off the stairs and went to juvenile detention from where she wrote several letters to Fredericka’s mother – something Lola had previously requested for in due course of her investigation. These letters are what ties Freddy to her crimes, at least the murder of their first victim, Simon.

Before Baba dies, during a voluntary negotiation by Jackson (Babou Ceesay), he is asked about the eyes on Simon’s dead body. There were two eyes on each palm, and when asked by Jackson, Baba reveals they are to signify God sees whatever we do with our hands. Jackson isn’t quite convinced, but after the way things go, the two detectives are completely snubbed from pursuing the case any further.

In her witness account, Freddy repeats what she overheard Baba told Jackson about the eyes, in hopes of matching their testimonies. The police buys it, but Lola doesn’t. Freddy is released as the victim, but elsewhere, despite a humiliating order from her boss, Lola seeks out the letters and in the final moments of the finale, over a phone call to Jackson, tells him about the same eyes, on Freddy’s letter to Fredericka’s mother.

They finally have a lead, and it’s a blatant segue for a second season, but it’s good to see the story actually led somewhere signifying success on their part. Freddy and Baba getting away with almost everything so conveniently was getting a little too much.

‘We Hunt Together’ Season finale, Episode 6 aired on Sunday, September 13, at 10 PM only on Showtime.
