Shaan Pritmani: Indian-American boy SUSPENDED after being bullied, choked at Coppell Middle School
A White student at Coppell Middle School in Texas attacked and strangled an Indian-American boy named Shaan Pritmani for almost four minutes. One of his classmates is said to have taped the footage. Shaan was observed seated at the lunch table when a student demanded that he leave his seat. “No, I’m not getting up. There is literally no one sitting here,” Shaan could be heard saying in the video. The student becomes enraged when Shaan refuses to give up his seat and chokes him. He chokes the boy and pushes him into his seat after pressing his elbow on his neck from behind. North American Association of Indian Students posted a clip from their official Twitter account condemning the bullying while pointing out the fact that the boy who bullied Shaan was suspended for one day while Shaan was suspended for three days.
Later, Shaan Pritmani's mother claimed in a Change.org petition that her son was physically attacked and choked by another student at his middle school at lunch on May 11. The petition has more than 360,000 signatures as of Thursday, May 19, morning. Sonika Kukreja, the mother of the attacker, said the school claimed her son was at fault and received a 3-day in-school suspension, while the aggressor only received 1-day suspension. The victim's friends provided video of the attack and stated Shaan wasn't at fault, according to the petition, but school administrators refused to change their decision. Furthermore, according to the petition, the school resource officer refused to write a citation because school management requested that it not be filed since there had been too many bullying reports recently. Furthermore, the petition claims that the kid who choked Shaan was a minor and is a member of the school wrestling team who can be seen doing a potentially fatal carotid restraint on Shaan's neck. By squeezing the sides of the neck, where the carotid arteries are situated, this method reduces blood flow to the brain. At the end of the neck choke move, Shaan appears to lose consciousness for a brief while.

Shaan’s mother Sonika Kukreja also told KXAS-TV in an interview, “It was horrible. I couldn't sleep for three nights straight. It felt like I was being choked. I cried many times watching it. His neck could’ve snapped. I wouldn’t have my son,” adding that she is "deeply concerned about the safety of our children and the message our school board, our police department, is sending out by not acting on this."

Meanwhile, in his email to parents, school Superintendent Brad Hunt noted, “Coppell ISD is aware of a video circulating on social media showing an incident at Coppell Middle School North involving a physical altercation between two students. Bullying, both verbal and physical, as well as physical acts of aggression are never acceptable and do not align with who we are at CISD and our core values." The email added that "because of student privacy laws and this being an ongoing investigation, we cannot share any further specifics on this situation or student discipline matters."
