Spoilers for 'WandaVision' Season 1 Episode 5

Evan Peters was supposed to be Mephisto, one of those famed villains who would be satan's equivalent in the MCU. Prior to the release of the Disney+ series, the rumor mills were buzzing with reports of Peters playing a baddie, but it does appear he is actually Pietro Maximoff, the very same speedy Quicksilver from 'X-Men: Days of the Future Past.' And now, while the folks watching the episode are still processing the major reveal, what if we say, Pietro isn't really Pietro?

Who is Mephisto?

For starters, we need to know who Mephisto is. The villain first appeared in 'The Silver Surfer #3' back in December 1968. The character is based on Mephistopheles, a demon from the legend of Faust. Over the editions, Mephisto did have a connection with the Scarlet Witch and Vision.  In the 1985 comic, 'The Vision and the Scarlet Witch,' Wanda created her children by unknowingly using fragments of Mephisto's soul, the realization takes her down a dark road.

WandaVision' Episode 5 Review: It is Wanda vs Vision in an insane episode that ties with 'X-Men'

While parts of this feel familiar, there is still a lot of speculation regarding the villain's entry into the MCU. And while the plot may of the present series be loosely based, there is always a chance the series will introduce a new character. Plus, it may answer how Wanda became so powerful. As to see where Pietro fits in, there are two theories— multiverse and the possibility of Mephisto crashing the fake reality as Pietro.

Multiverse kickstarted with 'Spider-Man: Far From Home' and now this extension makes sense if the chaps at Marvel are looking at integrating the X-Men in the MCU. This also explains the absence of Aaron Taylor-Johnson. But, Wanda doesn't know Pietro was in her reality. She never created him. So does that mean another force is at hand? It isn't new for Marvel to explore themes of horror, and Mephisto, with a demonic connect, might not be a stretch of speculation either.

'WandaVision' is streaming on Disney+.
