'WandaVision' manages to create quite the buzz every Friday on Twitter after it releases a new episode. One of the main talking points from the latest episode was the Maximoff kids, Billy and Tommy, gaining superpowers. It was telekinesis for Billy and super speed for Tommy as they put their abilities to use during Halloween at Westview. Billy was the main attraction as he would go on to eventually become Wiccan in the comics. And that wasn't all, Wiccan was gay and it remains to be seen if the series intends to maintain his sexuality that way.

Although Billy was a creation of Wanda's, he ceases to exist and is eventually reincarnated as Billy Kaplan. The comics also show that he is one of the LGBTQ+ superheroes with tremendous abilities and was married to Hulkling. Marvel fans, who have long felt that the MCU had to bring these characters to life, hoped 'WandaVision' would set the tone and not fiddle around with the sexual orientation of the superheroes.

'WandaVision' Episode 6 Review: A Halloween-themed doozy affair with a major throwback to the comic costumes

"Billy is literally in one of the most popular couples in comics (most popular gay one at least), and is one Marvel's most powerful characters," read one of the tweets. "his character is homosexual in the comics," read another. Some felt, it all depended on the character. "For the example few days ago they reported that star lord is gay but do you think it suits on it? He already dated so many girls and had crush on Gamora and they weere in relationship. Now they are saying he is gay so it should be according to the character."

"There is no being “suit” to lgbtq, someone could be the most masculine person ever and still be gay. like your point isn’t valid, lgbtq can be anyone regardless of their character or how they look," opined one of the fans.

In their previous interviews, Marvel Studios president, Kevin Feige and the Russo Brothers have gone on to state that a queer hero will make an appearance in the upcoming movies. But Marvel's superhero list is myriad. Now with all that said, the MCU is ultimately an alternate universe running parallel to the main Marvel continuity. So a character being straight in the comics wouldn't necessarily have to mean that they be straight in live-action. However, we do have to consider that Marvel produces content for a global audience and there are still countries where depicting acts of homosexuality, even to the point of kissing someone of the same gender, is considered offensive. That's the main reason why we haven't had a gay couple as the main characters in the 'Star Wars' movies (we're looking at you, Poe and Finn) and that's also why Marvel is unlikely to go the full-on LGBT route with the Young Avengers, at least not if they want the team to show up in the movies.
