Ahead of the Vice Presidential debate on Wednesday, October 7, Democrat’s Vice President pick Kamala Harris who will be competing present Vice President Mike Pence has scored support from the former president of United States, Jimmy Carter.

Carter, who just turned 96 and is the oldest living former president in US history, said the Democratic duo of Democrat’s Presidential candidate Joe Biden and his VP pick Harris has what it takes to lead the country. Jimmy wrote in a statement dated October 7, “We need champions in the White House like Joe Biden and Kamala Harris who understand the needs and values of working Georgians. Kamala Harris has the talent and charisma to lead our great nation as our next Vice President, and I know Americans will see that on full display during tonight’s debate.”

Jimmy, who became the thirty-ninth president of the US was elected president on November  2, 1976. Some of the notable accomplishments of his administration included the Panama Canal treaties, the Camp David Accords, the treaty of peace between Egypt and Israel, the SALT II treaty with the Soviet Union, and the establishment of US bilateral ties with the People's Republic of China as reported on his personal website.

Carter is profoundly known for his humanitarian work. Even at the age of 95, Carter volunteered to help build homes for Habitat for Humanity in Tennessee as reported by The Hill. He has also been associated with Rosalynn Carter Work Project with Habitat for Humanity. This is an annual home-building blitz spread across 14 countries.

As his present statement dropped, it was widely shared on social media. Many people lauded Carter’s support for the Harris camp while some felt "he had lost his mind." Some users spoke ill of Carter while others praised his solidarity. A political reporter at Daily Mail posted the statement, “Six days after President Jimmy Carter turns 96, he releases a statement supporting Kamala Harris in tonight's.” A user wrote in praise of Carter, “Carter is still serving America with wisdom and insight! Looking forward to the debate tonight Kamala Harris Georgia is with you all the way from Plains to Kennesaw and every city, town, and back road along the way!”

Another concurred, “Jimmy Carter is my favorite US president. Fight me.” A user quipped, “Kamala is going to eat the vice president for breakfast, lunch and dinner plus a snack and a nightcap and y'all are gonna get on Jimmy Carter's internet and call her aggressive.” Another wrote, “He's a national treasure.”

However, many attacked the former president, “His judgment remains as bad as it was when he was President ...lessons never learned.” Another wrote, “He must have lost his mind.” Some even downgraded his presidency, “Makes sense that one of the worst Presidents in American history would support these clowns.” One praised President Donald Trump, “You don't think Jimmy Carter or Reagan were more incompetent? Trump has been a good president for American values, which run counter to leftist values, so I see the hate for him, but he's definitely not incompetent.” A user wrote against Carter, "Jimmy Carter got booted because his economic policies sucked, plain and simple. Try living in reality."
