The vice-presidential debate held on October 7, which featured vice president Mike Pence and Democratic challenger Kamala Harris, captured the interest of social media users when a fly sat on the head of Pence for about two minutes. As Harris and Pence spoke about racial injustice and police brutality, it did not budge, nor did Pence acknowledge its presence, but Twitter users wasted no time in sharing jokes and hilarious reactions to poke fun at the current VP. A user shared a gif of the fly on Pence’s head and captioned the post: “Wholesome fly content.”

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden also took a jibe at Pence and shared a hilarious tweet in which he stated, “Pitch in $5 to help this campaign fly.” The caption came with a humorous picture of Biden where he is seen holding a fly swatter while twitching his eyebrows. Biden’s tweet also included the link to his campaign’s fundraiser site.

Biden’s fundraiser claims to “battle for the soul of this nation.” Its official site has fundraising amounts starting from $5 and going as high as one can contribute. As the VP debate ended, Biden's campaign’s Twitter handle started selling fly swatters with the caption, “Swats away flies and lies. Get yours today.”

A user responded to Biden's campaign cashing in on the fly moment and wrote, “Joe Biden has a fly swatter. His campaign was quick to get that ad out.” Meanwhile, other users commented on the hilarious moment itself. Author Tomi Ahonen wrote, “(Does it seem like Karma is determined to send the Trumpsters a message? I mean, Pence had the best 90 minutes of the Trump campaign since their convention - staying on message & almost tying Kamala who is far better debater, and the only thing anyone talks about is the fly)”

Another user said, “I never liked flies, but now I may save them for Trump’s campaign.” A user joked, “The Biden campaign appears to have raised $150,000 on a fly swatter tonight.” A user quipped on the fly on Pence’s head, “The fly on Pence's head was God's approval of the Trump campaign.” A user equipped, “The fly was sent by Obama & Clinton to spy on your campaign. Better get Ratcliff & Nunes to look into it!”

Meanwhile, more jokes started doing the rounds on social media. A user tweeted, “The SNL writer’s room when the fly landed on Pence’s head.” Another user tweeted, “The moderator and Kamala watching the fly sit on Pence’s head.” A third shared, “Kamala Harris and the fly after she paid it to sit pretty on Mike Pence head.” Another noted, “Trump will sue the Fly for spying on his campaign.” A user joked, “The fly explaining to his homies how he ended up on Pence head on national television .”
