'Vikings' season 5 episode 16 review: A Mother's ruthless heart and brothers' divided paths
We saw the worst of Queen Judith as she poisons her elder son for the sake of her younger son. She still holds him and mourns for him as he lies dead, poisoned by his own mother.
Spoilers below!
Ragnar's sons are divided politically, religiously and even morally in episode 16 of season 5B, but what is even more baffling is a mother killing her own son. The last episode shockingly revealed the darker side of Queen Judith, wife of late Aethelwulf, as she relished torturing one of her lord's for plotting against her favorite son King Alfred.
The torture then went on to reveal an even more disturbing truth - her eldest son Aethelred, was the leader of the traitors. King Alfred, generous as he is, forgives his brother, but his mother does not forgive her own son.
