SMITH POINT BEACH, SHIRLEY: A video filmed on Sunday, August 14, shows a man fighting with a shark at Smith Point Beach on Fire Island. Recently there have been two cases of shark attacks on Smith Point Beach. However, the individual who did the act remains unidentified.

One of the witnesses of the incident, Emily Murray, told New York Post she was walking along the beach and found a man battling the shark. Later, Emily took her phone to shoot the shark attack on the Smith Point beach shore

Emily further added, "He had been fishing and caught the shark by accident. "He was attempting to unhook it and cut it free." Meanwhile, it can be observed in Emily's clip, that the fisherman can be seen standing in the shallows of the water trying to bring the shark to shore. Emily was also seen shouting, "Holy s**t" in the video. Check out the video here.

In another snap taken by Emily, it can be seen a second man being assisted as they pull the predator onto the seashore. While it has not been confirmed, what exactly the type of shark is. However, there are doubts if it is the sand tiger shark, a non-aggressive species of shark.

Emily also told that the beach was not closed to swimmers, “I feel like we’ve all gotten used to the sharks.” However, visitors to Smith Point Beach have been on high alert in recent times. On July 13, a 41-year-old surfer was taken to a hospital after being bitten by a tiger shark while out on the water on his board. The shark left a deep gash in the man’s leg, but he survived. Meanwhile, on July 3, a lifeguard was bitten on the chest and right hand by a shark.

'Looks like a harmless nurse shark'

As the video went viral, netizens responded to the incident quickly. "Looks like a harmless nurse shark," said one user. Another tweet read, "Stop abusing the other creatures of the Earth." "We need to prosecute that guy!" stated another user. "outrageous! LEAVE SHARKS ALONE!!!" read another tweet. "A man was fishing and hooked a shark. I've done that. Not with a shark that big, but people either become curious or freak out either way", stated another tweet.
