It is no secret that Vice President Kamala Harris is an avid runner. In fact, she was out running when she received the news that she was going to be the next VP and made the famous 'We did it, Joe!' phone call. She recently showed off her stamina over the weekend during a quick stairs workout across the Lincoln Memorial staircase and immediately had the Internet praising her. But a handful couldn't help but feel sorry for those secret service agents around her who were forced into the workout.

A video shared on Twitter showed the 56-year-old running up and down the steps at the Lincoln Memorial on Saturday, January 6. Wearing the mask throughout her workout, and even when she posed with people, Harris sported an all-black workout outfit and a baseball cap.

Kamala Harris's old tweet promising $2,000 stimulus payment resurfaces, Internet asks 'so where’s that check?'

Harris was not the only one out on a run that time anyway. So, her Secret Service agents were keeping up with her, running up and down the stairs in suits alongside her. Twitter users wouldn't miss such a thing. "Get you a VP who works hard for the American people and makes time to get a workout in," someone tweeted with the video.

In no time, the video became viral as many praised her but even found it funny that her security ran with her. "@KamalaHarris casually running the stairs at the Lincoln Memorial flanked by Secret Service during her AM exercise, while more than one little girl stopped to stare... May be the most amazing candid moments of any politician," one tweeted. While another added with a laughing emoji, "I like watching Kamala work out because it’ll never not be funny to see the secret service guy run the stairs behind her in a suit."

One expressed sheer horror at the fact that they would have to be, quite literally, on their toes when protecting the vice president. "Imagine being on duty to guard Kamala that day and you gotta run the stairs again like high school sports! I’d QUIT," they tweeted. "Our @VP Kamala Harris is amazing - but also these poor secret service agents that have to run the steps with her. I’m tired just watching!" another said.

As the Vice President was out and about working out, she was accompanied by her husband and second gentleman Douglas Emhoff. Some social media users got the chance to greet her in person, "It was amazing running into Madam @VP during our 5 miler this morning!" Instagram user @gobobbygogo wrote. "We checked out the @TheGlassCeilingBreaker display dedicated to her then noticed that she and @SecondGentleman were actually running steps at the Lincoln Memorial behind us. I also loved how he waited atop the steps to give her a supportive too! #coupleswhorunogether."

For many who saw her in this avatar, thought seeing Harris "doing normal things" was a "very surreal" experience. "[Harris is] just a normal person going about her day and getting a workout in. There were secret service all around her," a 26-year-old sales representative for Mondelez, Samantha Borell, who was visiting the city over the weekend, told the PA news agency. "She was interacting with people but made sure to keep her distance from them. She’s also tiny — it was very surreal seeing the most powerful woman doing normal things."

But naysayers on Twitter took the video in another direction. "This is @KamalaHarris starving for attention & having @SecretService follow her every step like peasants. They deserve better treatment," one tweeted.
