It's a world where vampires and humans are at war. Netflix's 'V Wars' adapted from the popular comics, tells the story of two close friends, Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes) and Dr Luther Swann (Ian Somerhalder), and how their friendship is torn apart, after Fayne becomes infected with a deadly vampire virus. Soon, this virus spreads like wildfire, and Luther struggles to keep his son Dez safe, after Luther's wife Jesse almost kills him.

Luther saves Dez by killing Jesse. After all the gaping loss, Dez becomes clearly the only reason for Luther to keep moving forward in this war against vampires, who he still wants to believe have a shred of humanity in them. As he says emphatically, he could do anything for Dez, including give his life for him. As fate would have it, the stakes get higher and more emotional for Luther.

It's war-time now, and Luther's determination to find the cure becomes stronger, after he realises that Dez runs the risk of turning into a vampire. There is a heartbreaking scene where Luther stares brokenly at the computer screens which show the match between Dez and Fayne, realising that he might lose his son as well, just after his wife and best friend.

The new system has no mercy against vampires and are ready to get rid of the lot. Dez is a 'Blood', as the military says, and needs 'to be taken down'. The desperation to save his son from this new and brutal world, becomes more etched on Swann's face as the season progresses.

Interestingly, in the comics, it is his daughter Jenny, who is infected instead and has committed some gruesome murders. She is taken away by the police.

Coming back to the show, in the middle of all the vampire drama, there is also a tug-of-war happening over Dez, between Luther and his ex-wife Rachel (Nikki Reed). Rachel is worried about Dez and believes that he is safer with her, especially after he falls seriously ill (thanks to being exposed to the virus).

'V Wars' aired on Netflix on December 5. There are ten episodes in the first season.
