Netflix's 'V Wars' departs from the comics by starting at the beginning of the vampire infection
Netflix's 'V Wars' starring Ian Somerhalder and Adrian Holmes is now streaming and the show has already started much differently from the comics of the same name by Jonathan Maberry.
We begin in the Arctic, where a scientist walks out into the cold and shoots himself. Dr. Luther Swann (Somerhalder) is sent to investigate and he takes his best friend, Michael Fayne (Holmes) along for the ride.
It is there that Luther sees the exposed biomass, calling in the authorities leading him and Michael to be quarantined by the CDC. Luther's colleague, Dr. Lansing runs tests on Luther and Michael, but these tests prove inconclusive. Luther falls ill, however, Michael is experiencing heightened senses.
Much to Luther's disagreements, the two are released from quarantine and over the course of the next few days, Michael finds himself undergoing many changes -- a heightened sense of smell, hearing, and even super strength.
One day, a distraught Michael calls up Luther, revealing that he is at the home of a dead woman -- brutally killed, the same way as the other people mentioned in the news. Michael doesn't remember anything and Luther helps him cover it up.
However, Luther confesses to the cops leading them to arrest him and simultaneously catch Michael. However, Michael escapes when he finds out that Luther ratted him out. The misfortune does not end there. When he gets home, he finds out his wife, Jess had been turned into a vampire since she had come in contact with Michael. Luther is forced to kill her to protect his son, Dez.
This is quite different from the events in the comics where the story begins well after the spread of the pathogen that causes vampirism. Further, Michael and Luther aren't even acquaintances, let alone friends.
