'Egregious incompetence': 'Coward' Uvalde police chief Pete Arredondo likely to be FIRED after backlash

Parents threatened to remove their kids from Uvalde schools, and several also called for CISD Superintendent Dr Hal Harrell to resign

Uvalde’s school district police chief Pete Arredondo is likely to be fired on coming Saturday, July 23. As per the latest reports, Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District officials had a special meeting with parents on July 18 and have since informed the police chief that the school board wants to meet him before making a decision.

Just a day after a 77-page report by a joint committee of the Texas Legislature bashed the police response to the Robb Elementary mass shooting, an open forum hosted by the school board let the community members raise their concerns about the changes and updates for the 2022-2023 school year, where the members demanded police chief Pete be fired immediately, as reported by ABC. Parents threatened to remove their kids from Uvalde schools come September, and several also called for Uvalde CISD Superintendent Dr Hal Harrell to resign.

Harrell placed Pete on administrative leave on June 22, despite strong demands from the community for his ouster. Harrell wrote in the press release, "From the beginning of this horrible event, I shared that the district would wait until the investigation was complete before making personnel decisions [...] Because of the lack of clarity that remains and the unknown timing of when I will receive the results of the investigations, I have made the decision to place Chief Arredondo on administrative leave effective on this date"

'Pete Arredondo should be fired'

However, it is not just the community members who are demanding Pete's resignation. Netizens have been largely critical of the chief throughout and want him out of the force with immediate effect. A user wrote on Twitter, "Pete Arredondo should be fired tomorrow. He failed at his job miserably. Why should he be given a chance to resign? He needs to embark upon another career; not law enforcement. He showed us he knows not what to do." Another asked to fast-track the situation while saying, "I'm not sure what there is to discuss about Pete Arredondo's future as the chief of police. He shouldn't have one. Not only has he not been fired, he's on PAID leave while they "investigate". Not only should he be fired, he should be prosecuted & so should many others. Hurry up!"

Many also pointed out how his career is already over. An individual commented, "I think it’s going to be part of the consequence of failure in command and control for police and military all over the world. Pete Arredondo’s career in law enforcement and politics is over." As others continued to slam him, someone wrote, "Who in the hell told these cowardly cops to permit the unnecessary slaughter of innocent children in Uvalde? This evil is despicable! the loser pete arredondo is a miserable coward & along with several others, like grabbott are guilty of murder & egregious incompetence."
