Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr garnered immense praise on social media after dishing out an emotional response to the Uvalde school shooting that saw 19 children and two adults dead. In a press conference prior to the NBA playoff skirmish between the Warriors and the Dallas Mavericks, Kerr angrily demanded action. "When are we going to do something?" he remarked. "I'm so tired of getting up here and offering condolences to the devastated families that are out there. I'm tired of the moments of silence. Enough!

"There are 50 senators right now who refuse to vote on HR-8 [Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2021], which is a background check rule that the House passed a couple of years ago. It's been sitting there for two years," he lashed out. "There’s a reason they won’t vote on it, to hold onto power." Kerr said. “They won’t vote on it, because they want to hold on to their own power. It’s pathetic. So I ask you, Mitch McConnell, and all of you senators who refuse to do anything about the violence in school shootings and supermarket shootings, I ask you, are you going to put your own desire for power ahead of the lives of our children, and our elderly, and our church-goers? Because that's what it looks like. It's what we do every week," he added. "So I'm fed up, I've had enough."

Steve Kerr says it's race-baiting to target players kneeling during National Anthem: 'We love our country'

Twitter lauded the head coach for his impassioned plea. "All because of 50 Senators who want to hold onto power. Everyone should be as outraged as Steve Kerr," one of the fans wrote. "Coach Kerr said it all. The list of mass shootings is too long for a tweet; 1,000s were murdered. Moment of silence. Thoughts & prayers. Rinse. Repeat. Nothing changes. We're not safe at school, work, houses of worship, malls, grocery stores & movie theaters. Is this freedom?" a tweet read. Another netizen understood the reason behind Kerr's lashing out. "His father was killed by gunmen, we have to understand," he tweeted.

"Time for Steve to pack in coaching and run for office. Country needs more people like him in influential positions. Status quo isn’t cutting it," one of the comments read. "Mr. Kerr spoke out loud how most Americans feel. This is a very sad day. What will McConnell and the GOP do?" a tweet said. "I agree with what Kerr said. I think there should be background checks. I don’t believe in banning guns though. Banning guns won’t stop them from being purchased illegally and sadly background checks won’t stop normal citizens that go rogue from getting them either," another reckoned.

"An emotional Steve Kerr throws down the gauntlet to politicians he says are more afraid of losing their jobs than doing the right thing about guns. Everyone should watch this. He gets it," a journalist tweeted. "Mr. Kerr, chapeau on you sir! I hope that your wise words, your strong courage, sounds with all your energy and sadness in the US SENATE! Bravo sir! More world citizens like you in the world please!" another seconded.

Per an AP report, the attack at Robb Elementary School in the heavily Latino town of Uvalde was the deadliest at a U.S. grade-school since a gunman killed 20 children and six adults in Newtown, Connecticut, in 2012 December. President Joe Biden shared his views. “As a nation we have to ask, when in God’s name are we going to stand up to the gun lobby? When in God’s name are we going to do what has to be done?” he asked. “Why are we willing to live with this carnage?”
