UVALDE, TEXAS: Uvalde Mayor Don McLaughlin has called out the media for the leaked video of the mass shooting that happened at Robb Elementary School on May 24. The video has reportedly revealed several disturbing details, including police waiting for 77 minutes before taking down killer Salvador Ramos, who murdered 19 children and two teachers in that time.

During a city council meeting on July 12, the mayor slammed the media and called it “unprofessional”. He said: “The way that video was released today is one of the most chicken things I've ever seen. Yes, I've wanted the video released but all these news agencies knew that we were working with the House committee.”

McLaughlin also reiterated that the original plan was to have a meeting in the near future, where parents would have been given a report before a question-and-answer session, after which the footage would be made public. He noted, “Every news agency knew that we were talking to the House. The house went to the Austin-American Statesman and KVUE TV and told them that this was going to happen. The response was: 'Well, we all have a job to do.’”

“There was no reason for those families to have to see that. They were going to see the video but they didn't need to see the gunman coming in and hear the gunshots. They don't need to relive that. They've been through enough. And that was the most chicken way to put this video out today. It was very unprofessional. In my opinion, it was very unprofessional, which this investigation has been, in my opinion, since Day One,” he added.

Another council member agreed with McLaughlin as he said, “The mayor said that it was 'chicken,' it was chickens**t. They did that for ratings and they did that for money.” However, the attendees did not seem convinced as they accused the police of failing them and their children. A person screamed, “What about the cops? Are they chickens**t?”

The person also asked, “You said they did a good job. Do you still think that they did a good job?” But he was reportedly interrupted by McLaughlin. When another attendee asked why the city council is not questioning the police instead of targeting media, McLaughlin replied: “Every agency that was in that hallway has to be accountable for their actions that day. No one will be exempt.”

Besides, several people also expressed their unhappiness at the removal of the temporary memorial to the victims on July 8. A community member went so far as to accuse the city council of a “f***ing cover-up.” A family member of victim Layla Salazar alleged that they were forced to take down crosses from the memorial. Officials had earlier said that they had been "working with the families to dissemble the tribute. A permanent memorial is in the works, according to lawmakers,” The Daily Mail reported.

The horrifying May 24 video, obtained first by The Austin-American Statesman, showed Uvalde County Sheriff's deputy Felix Rubio being restrained as cops did not do anything to stop the teen mass killer. The footage also reportedly showed how officers waited to take action while giving Ramos ample time to take down 19 students, which included Felix's ten-year-old daughter Alexandria Aniyah Rubio, also known as Lexi, along with two teachers. After the tragedy, Felix gave an interview to CNN in which he said, “All I can hope is that she's just not a number. This is enough. No one else needs to go through this. We never needed to go through this, but we are.”
