On January 27, the Memphis Police Department released the video of the brutal arrest that took place on January 7, Nichols died three days later in the hospital after the incident. Moreover, a Twitter user stated, "No one could put something under his head. Handcuffs left on. There were at least 9 cops there. Why didn't they take the cuffs off? All of this for a routine traffic stop???" Whilst, someone said, "Failing to render aid especially when it's your job to do so is a crime." Also, a tweet read, "The entire city of Memphis PD and EMT should be charged, some criminally but all civilly. Those inside their houses, why didn't they come out and do something? How can they stand by and watch someone being beat to death."

Some users quetioned the police department and a user wrote, "The police are not there to help, they are not there to protect and serve. They hide behind their badges and use it to justify their actions." Further, someone noted, "It doesn't look like they called paramedics. Late in the event additional police officers are standing around, having been called in. In the background you can see Tyre STILL lying on the ground; two cops wander back to poke at him. How did they get him to the hospital? How fast?"
