SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: On one hand, Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover has left his fans and followers happy but there were many who seemed not to be okay with their new boss. The Tesla founder reportedly bought the microblogging site for a hefty $44 billion. He also fired many top officials at the company, like CEO Parag Agrawal and CFO Ned Segal.

Following the acquisition, the world’s richest man, who claims himself to be "free speech absolutist", also shared a tweet that read, “the bird is freed”. In a previous share, he noted: “The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence.

“There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far left wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society.”

However, not everyone appeared to be agreeing with his views as one person wrote: “At least Tumblr is owned by @automattic which is a more reliable company and definitely has more integrity that #muskoverse... 🧐 Unfortunately they haven't found a purpose for the platform yet…” The second person tweeted: “🤣 We don't have to do anything but let Elon keep tweeting. He will continue to dig his own hole deeper and deeper until twitter turns into 4chan or Truth Social 2.0 🤣 Maybe that's what he's going for? Who cares. On yo the next platform. No big deal. 😎”

When comedian Tim Young shared, “If you listen closely, you can hear leftists screaming in the distance,” a user fired back: “I don’t hear it but i do see and read little but rightest jeer and excessive ridicule. Predictable of course.” Another user stated, “Not that people on the right have anything of substance to add anyway—I downloaded Parler when it first became available.”

A sarcastic tweet stated, “the ultimate goal of everyone still on this platform is to make twitter's value go the ways of tumblr and myspace we need to turn that 44 billion dollar purchase into a 500 million dollar sale,”, which also noted, “the right wing bots found this tweet and they're FUMING. they hurtin so bad lmfao.”

Referring to a tweet by Musk, a user questioned, “In the interests of humanity: Please stop. In what world would it ‘help humanity’ to have the richest man in the world own the modern ‘public square,’ deciding who gets to say what?” The second user wrote, “most of us abandoned facebook when we thought we couldn't live without it. we can do the same on Twitter. my mental health will probably skyrocket, tbh.” The third one jokingly mentioned, “Everything he does is to ‘help humanity.’ When is he going to Mars already?” “His stated intentions are irrelevant. Lax moderation leads to more toxicity, which will drive users away and make advertising less lucrative. No amount of flowery ‘free speech’ and ‘healthy debate’ talk will change that,” the fourth user added.
