Universal Pictures is reportedly planning a reboot of the 1996 classic disaster movie 'Twister'. The film, which has spawned a number of urban legends as well as games and theme park attractions, was lauded for its excellent visual effects and was a major box office hit. Here’s everything you need to know about the reboot.

Release Date

Since the project is yet to begin production, don't expect it to land in theaters till at least late 2021 or early 2022. Keep an eye on this page for more updates on the release date, which we'll be bringing to you as soon as the information is made public.

Plot

The original 'Twister' focused on a pair of storm chasers who attempt to deliver an advance weather alert system in the path of a twister, while also dealing with their failing marriage. We're expecting the reboot to follow a similar plotline, though there are bound to be some changes to make it more up to date. We do expect the reboot to focus on a new set of heroes, possibly with more advanced technology and a more current disaster to avert.

Cast

'Twister' starred Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt. While Paxton passed away in 2017, Hunt is still an active actor, writer, producer, and director. It is currently unknown whether Hunt will appear in the reboot since no casting decisions have been made official yet. We'll be updating this section with the full cast list as soon as it becomes available. Watch this space for more info.

Director

Joseph Kosinski

'Top Gun: Maverick' director Joseph Kosinski is reportedly the favorite to direct the planned reboot. He made his feature directorial debut with 'Tron: Legacy' and has gone on to helm a number of high-budget productions. According to reports, Kosinski is currently in early talks to direct the project with Frank Marshall and Sarah Scott set to serve as producers on the high-profile reboot.

Trailer
