Madonna has lost a lawsuit against her old friend and art collector friend Darlene Luiz to prevent him from auctioning rapper Tupac Shakur's break-up letter to her.

Tupac and Madonna had a relationship which the 'Like a Virgin' singer revealed recently. Madonna wanted to keep the details of the letter that Tupac wrote to her a year before his death in 1995.

Madonna decided to sue Luiz when she heard about the sale of the letter online; bidding on the letter reached up to $100,000 in July 2017. Madonna had no idea about Luiz's possession of the letter.

According to the Independent, Madonna challenged that her celebrity status, "does not obviate my right to maintain privacy, including with regard to highly personal items." However, the judge dismissed the case saying the statute of limitation to recover her items had passed.
