NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Tucker Carlson, 53, was slammed by netizens after he said all the outrage over Tyre Nichols death was a mere 'propaganda campaign' while declaring that Ashli Babbitt, who stormed the Capitol during the January 6 riot, was "murdered far more clearly" than Nichols. Several social media posts called out Carlson for "stoking hate" and believed that he should be "fired for this comment." Carlson, on his show on Fox News channel, said that the death of Tyre Nichols is being used to "inflame racial hatred in the United States," suggesting that America's political elite had launched a "highly aggressive propaganda campaign … designed to manipulate you."

The death of Tyre Nichols, 29, in Memphis, Tennessee, has prompted calls for widespread rallies against police brutality. Five policemen were charged with the murder of Nichols as they allegedly assaulted Nichols during a traffic check earlier this month on January 7. A bodycam footage of the incident has been released and the video showed how Nichols, a FedEx driver, was chased and brutally beaten by the officers, who pepper sprayed and then tased him as he shrieked in pain.

Why did Carlson compare Ashli Babbit and Tyre Nichols?

Ashli Babbitt, 35, an Air Force veteran from California was fatally shot by a police officer while participating in the January 6 riot at the US Capitol. She was shot while attempting to climb through the broken window of a barricaded door leading to the Speaker’s Lobby inside the Capitol. It was the same area from where police officers were evacuating members of Congress after a mob reacting to Trump’s claim that the 2020 presidential election was stolen had overrun the building. Babbitt died while wearing a Trump campaign flag wrapped around her shoulders like a cape. Two federal investigations have already cleared the officer who shot her of any wrongdoing.

Carlson on his show on Friday, January 27, claimed that Babbitt was "murdered far more clearly" than Nichols, comparing the actions of the police officers in both situations as both Nichols and Babbitt were "unarmed." He seemingly categorized both instances as examples of 'police brutality' but said people "weeping" for Nichols, "applauded" when Babbitt was killed.

Netizens RIP Carlson apart in brutal tweets

Several Twitter users slammed Carlson for his comments. "This country is mourning, the murder of a black man who did nothing. And you talk about a terrorist that tried to break into our house. Fox News is nothing but a propaganda bullshit station. It should be removed from DIRECTV. And all other providers," wrote a user.

Another tweet had a video extract from Carlson's show, with the caption, "Tucker Carlson says Ashli Babbitt was “murdered” “far more clearly” than Tyre Nichols." In the video Carlson can be heard saying , "So, of course the very same people who were weeping on television about police brutality, applauded when one of Nancy Pelosi's officers murdered an unarmed women called Ashli Babbitt. Yes, murdered that's exactly what that was, far more clearly than anything you just saw on the video tape we played." Carlson further added, "The point of this is to federalise local law enforcement, obviously its never been saving anybody's life, its about accumulating power."

Users called out Carlson for "stoking hate" and called him "disgusting". "Ashli Babbitt was a veteran. Babbitt knew the possibility of getting killed for unauthorized entry into a federal building. Tucker Carlson knows how to stoke hate," wrote a user. "Carlson is a disgusting person," added another.

A few users believed that Carlson should lose his job for his incendiary comments. "He should be fired for this comment," wrote a user. "For this alone, he should be removed off air," added another.

Tweets also pointed out the difference between Nichols' and Babbitt's death. "Difference: one was breaching the Capitol and the other a traffic stop. No comparison!" wrote a user. "Major difference @TuckerCarlson ... He was trying to run home while 5 police officers were beating him to death for a traffic violation. She was trying to run into the Capitol to kill Nancy Pelosi. What exactly was in her backpack anyway?" added another. A Twitter user further added that, "Tucker is creating dangerous rhetoric that’s gonna get him in deep trouble."
