After Michelle Obama tore into President Donald Trump, calling him the "wrong president for our country" at the virtual Democratic National convention on August 17, Monday, Trump did not hold back his feelings.

Trump went on a Twitter rant on the night of August 17, after hearing Obama's scathing speech, defending the fact that the people of the US selected him to lead their country. "Somebody please explain to @MichelleObama that Donald J Trump would not be here, in the beautiful White House, if it weren’t for the job done by your husband, Barack Obama. Biden was merely an afterthought, a good reason for that very late & unenthusiastic endorsement," Trump wrote."My Administration and I built the greatest economy in history, of any country, turned it off, saved millions of lives, and now am building an even greater economy than it was before. Jobs are flowing, NASDAQ is already at a record high, the rest to follow. Sit back & watch!"

In a second tweet, he seemed to be nursing the wound he received from the mainstream media, which has over the past few months called out his incompetent handling of the coronavirus situation in the country. "Looking back into history, the response by the ObamaBiden team to the H1N1 Swine Flu was considered a weak and pathetic one. Check out the polling, it’s really bad. The big difference is that they got a free pass from the Corrupt Fake News Media!" he wrote.

Trump later added: "The ObamaBiden Administration was the most corrupt in history, including the fact that they got caught SPYING ON MY CAMPAIGN, the biggest political scandal in the history of our Country. It’s called Treason, and more. Thanks for your very kind words Michelle!"

The 56-year-old former first lady, one of the most revered women leaders in contemporary America, made her keynote speech at the opening night of the DNC. Sporting a necklace with the word VOTE on it, she said: "Let me be as honest and clear as I possibly can. Donald Trump is the wrong president for our country." It soon started trending online. "He has had more than enough time to prove that he can do the job, but he is clearly in over his head. He cannot meet this moment. He simply cannot be who we need him to be for us. It is what it is," she said.

She also made a reference to her famous words uttered at the 2016 convention — "When they go low, we go high" — and said: "Going high is the only thing that works." She also clarified that going high doesn’t mean "putting on a smile and saying nice things when confronted by viciousness and cruelty." She said, "Going high means taking the harder path. It means scraping and clawing our way to that mountain top." She also praised Biden while comparing him with Trump, calling the former veep a "profoundly decent man" who will "tell the truth and trust science."

Previewing the speech, Trump said on August 17 at a campaign speech at the Minneapolis-St Paul airport ahead of the DNC that the taped speeches would make the conventions more boring. “These are all taped speeches. Michelle Obama, her speech was taped,” he said. “You want to go to a snooze? You know when you hear a speech is taped, it’s like there’s nothing very exciting about it, right?”

He also pointed at the unfair advantages pre-taped speakers enjoy, which was to make sure that they could edit and re-edit their speeches to make them free of the errors or slip-ups that often happen during delivering live speeches. “Why don’t they tell me that?” he asked, and joked, “I’ll tape my speech, next week... I’ll make sure it’s perfecto, every word will be perfect.”

The president also took a swing at his favorite news outlet — the Fox News — as according to their scheduling, they are planning to air the Democrat speeches all week. “Fox will broadcast them more than they broadcast us,” he said. “You know that.”
