Tina Peters: Trump-loving Mesa County clerk tries to kick cop while being arrested
MESA COUNTY, COLORADO: A video of a Mesa County clerk, Tina Peters, who is said to be a fan of former President Donald Trump, has gone viral on the internet as it showed her trying to kick a police officer while being arrested inside a restaurant. The woman is accused of recording a court hearing on an Apple iPad tablet computer despite its being prohibited. It has been said that a search warrant was issued Tuesday morning, February 8, in Mesa County Court.
The cops were reportedly trying to seize the iPad that belonged to Peters to review its data “believed to have been created, viewed, accessed, modified, deleted, downloaded or saved” on Monday afternoon, February 7, during proceedings in the courtroom involving her former chief deputy clerk, Belinda Knisley, who is accused of creating a hostile work environment. Though the clerk refuted the allegation before the judge, the arrest warrant states that “the iPadOS camera application was open, distinguishable with the red record button” and that an observer “saw that the view in the viewfinder was a live view of the courtroom.”

According to reports, Peters was approached by three police officers outside the bagel shop at around 10:45 in the morning on Tuesday. Video from the scene shared on Twitter by 9News showed the clerk attempting to keep herself away from cops and screaming, “Let go of me!” and “it hurts”. The clip also showed her lifting her right leg behind her seemingly trying to hurt a cop. “Let go of me! Give me my key to my car!” she was heard yelling as officers detained her. However, she was released at the scene only as the charges against her are pending.
A representative of Peters's legal defense fund has defended Peters’ action during her arrest and said that as per the warrant’s demand, she gave her iPad to the cops. However, when they tried to seize her other belongings, like her car keys, which were not listed on the warrant, she rebelled.
However, the video of her arrest has garnered a lot of attention online with a user saying, “George Floyd was murdered for less resistance.” Another one tweeted, “Hmm why didn’t the police tackled her to the floor? Why not put their knee to her neck? No? She was resisting arrest, no? Hmmm.....” “She didn’t comply and yet somehow she wasn’t shot or choked to death,” the third user added.

Commenting on the video, a person said, “It will never fail to amuse me when people are getting arrested & they're screaming 'Let go of me!' Or 'Take your hands off me - don't touch me!' Like the cops are going to let go & be 'Oops, our bad.' Grow up.” The second one noted: “@MesaCountyClerk you should have just complied. Why do you think the laws of the court don’t apply to you? Did you actually try to kick the cops? Tina doesn’t back the blue.”

Meanwhile, Colorado Politics reported that Peters' detention was not “directly related to multiple state and federal investigations into Peters's alleged involvement last year in election data security breaches.” The news site added that “Peters has been accused of helping facilitate breaches in election system security, ignoring election rules and defying orders from Secretary of State Jena Griswold. She also faces ethics and campaign finance complaints involving gifts she's allegedly accepted above legal limits.”
