Although the spike in the deaths due to the novel coronavirus has left the world devastated, President Donald Trump and his family seem reluctant to cover their faces with masks while stepping out. A significant number of his supporters following in his footsteps have publicly spoken against wearing masks, calling it a violation of their fundamental rights. Democrats behaving as if they are immune to the deadly virus has now become a running joke among the Internet users.

After negating the need for a mask for a long time, stating that he’s being tested regularly, Trump told in an interview with Fox Business on Wednesday, July 1, that he has nothing against wearing a mask. He stated, “Actually, I had a mask on. I sort of liked the way I looked, OK? I thought it was OK. It was a dark, black mask, and I thought it looked OK. Looked like the Lone Ranger. But, no, I have no problem with that. I think — and if people feel good about it, they should do it.”

People couldn’t help but rush to Twitter soon after hearing Trump’s statement to ridicule him for comparing himself with Lone Ranger, a fictional Texas Ranger, and share some words of wisdom about using the facial mask the right way. One user noted, “POS thinks he is supposed to wear it as a mask around eyes.  Someone tell him it is supposed to be on his dirty filthy mouth. Who does he think he is / the Lone Ranger? Really. Not even.”

“Oh FFS!!! He is only wearing it because someone stroked his ego or he thinks he will look better than Biden in a mask? The Lone Ranger wore an eye mask.” added another.

Some of the tweets were directed at the fact that the original Lone Ranger was a Black and called out Trump for not getting his facts right about the icon of American culture. According to History.com, Lone Ranger drew inspiration from the real-life African-American cowboy Bass Reeves, who was born a slave nearly a century before the character was introduced. Legend holds that Reeves was a master of disguise who fought the outlaws of the Old West.

One tweet read, "Lone Ranger was inspired by Bass Reeves, the very real Black lawman who the show basically erased in favor of a White man. I'm sure he is not trying to call himself a Black man here." And another added, “Who's going to tell Trump the real Lone Ranger was Black"

Meanwhile, some of the users called him out for being utterly irresponsible and setting the wrong example to his followers by joking about wearing a mask which is considered essential during the pandemic.

A Twitter user wrote, “And the MAGAts will now think if they wear a mask like the Lone Ranger, they're protected from COVD-19! #TrumpIsAMoron #TrumpIsA_DANGER_ToAmerica”

While another user sarcastically stated, “LEASE ENCOURAGE HIM AND COMPLIMENT HIM THAT HE DOES LOOK LIKE THE LONE RANGER SO HE CAN WEAR A MASK AND GET HIS IDIOT FOLLOWERS TO WEAR THEM TOO!!!”
