ENNIS, ALASKA: If you are hooked onto HBO's 'True Detective: Night Country', you must be already working your mind around several theories and mysteries. And one among them is the recurring spiral symbol throughout the season.

We were subconsciously introduced to the symbol in the first episode when Liz Danvers (Jodie Foster) was sorting out Annie Kowtok's evidence, arranging the printouts around her in a spiral. However, the spirals began to truly show up by the second episode, introducing an element of mystery among viewers.

Danvers finds the symbol of the forehead of the frozen corpse of a scientist. In same episode, Rose Aguineau is seen drawing it in the snow and telling Evangeline Navarro (Kali Reis), "It’s old, missy. Older than Ennis. It's older than the ice, probably."

As the show progresses, it is found out that Annie had a tattoo of a spiral, of which she apparently dreamt of!

Do the cryptic spirals connect Season 4 with Season 1?

In 'True Detective' Season 1, spirals were tied to the Yellow King and Carcosa cult. Though the season concluded without delving into the supernatural elements, the current season seems to establish a connection, with a possible conclusion that Season 1 was a supernatural show after all.

Season 4 has been baked in the mold of Season 1, where rational facts find their way amid the deep spirituality of the people of the community.

So far, we have got enough hints that the current season is going bold by taking a supernatural route. And the subtle hints dropped the makers leaves one wondering about the potential connection with the first season.

Is 'she' connected to the spirals?

In the latest episode, Liz Danvers interrogated Lund Anders, who came out of coma and seemed possessed, which further fueled our speculations of events that are beyond explanation.

Lund, who lost his eyesight and both his legs, yelled in agitation and terror, "We've woke her. She's awake. And now, she is out on the ice. She came for us in the dark."

While it is not yet revealed who he is referring to, we believe that "she" is possibly Sedna, the Inuit deity of the sea. Probably, the Sedna and the Innuit folklore end up being connected to the supernatural and gothic entity called 'Yellow King', making it all come together in the end.

Three episodes of 'True Detective: Night Country' are available to stream on HBO.
