Kenneth Miller, a Georgia high school coach, was suspended after defending himself and restraining a student who was in possession of a loaded firearm in school.

According to News 19, Tri-Cities High School coach Miller remarked, "I don’t feel like I did anything wrong. I only adhered to what Fulton County School Board Policy says you’re allowed to do."

On August 20, the school's principal summoned Miller to her office, claiming that there had been reports of students on campus carrying guns. "During that process, we located guns," Miller told Fox 5, claiming that "we saved lives."

In the presence of police officers, Miller confronted one female student. Miller and the cops had no idea the student, who was described as confrontational and violent by witnesses, was armed at the time of the altercation.

According to News 19, the situation escalated when the student hit Miller with a stapler. Miller then grabbed the girl and held her down until authorities took charge and arrested her. Miller was first dismissed, but the school system eventually changed its mind and put him on a month-long suspension, according to News 19.

"The district administration does not support Mr Miller’s actions relating to this event and believes his conduct failed to meet the professional expectations it has for employees. Mr Miller inappropriately intervened in a student matter being handled by school administrators and law enforcement. Mr Miller acted outside of the scope of his authority and responsibilities," read a statement released by Fulton County Schools to Fox News Digital on Thursday.

The statement continued, "Mr Miller’s conduct resulted in an escalation of a physical altercation with a student in crisis, which conflicts with district expectations to deescalate in these types of situations. Mr Miller has not exhausted his due process rights at this time and remains on full, paid administrative leave."

Miller's attorney urged school districts to help instructors who "get put in terribly dangerous situations." "Those teachers are our first line of defense against guns and other types of terrible violence that happens in schools," Miller's lawyer said.
