Brighton resident, Reuben Sharpe transitioned to a man about 12 years ago. Around six years ago, Sharpe decided to become a parent and give birth to a child.

He and his 28-year old non-binary partner, Jay, started scouting for a sperm donor online. Sharpe then got pregnant with the help of sperm donated by a transgender woman. At 39, Sharpe and his partner welcomed their baby, Jamie, about three months ago.

Since the time Sharpe decided to get pregnant about six years ago, he stopped taking testosterone injections to increase his chances of getting pregnant. During the procedure, Sharpe also learned that it would be possible for him to get pregnant since his womb and ovaries were still functional.

According to a Daily Mail report, Sharpe now "feels complete" now that he and his partner have a baby of their own, although it took them six years to become parents.

Not that the couple was desperate to experience pregnancy but they are thankful that they had the option and the proper facility to be able to give birth to a child. They are also happy that their families are excited and supporting the arrival of their newborn.

Sharpe and Jay met at a pub and when Sharpe approached him with the plan of raising a child, he was worried that their relationship might not work if his partner was ready for a child.

They both started the journey and found a trans-woman on Facebook, who was ready to donate sperm. The privately done treatment cost the couple $7,850 (£6,000) for three sittings.

The first round was a failure but the second and third rounds were successful. He was then treated by a specialist team of midwives at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

While Sharpe was undergoing the procedure, he was asked by many about how he would give birth, which he found inappropriate.

He also said that Jay and he have faced a lot of stigma from society since they decided to become parents and proceeded with Sharpe's pregnancy. However, at the same time, they also found some supportive people to stand by them.
