Rachel Levine: Trans health secretary shares why she waited until after having her children before starting treatment
HARTFORD, CONNECTICUT: The video footage of transgender assistant health secretary, Rachel Levine admitting that she is happy she waited until after having her own children before starting gender reassignment treatment. The video resurfaced amid the backlash that she is getting for suggesting that such treatments should be normalized.
The first openly transgender government official began her transition in 2011 when she was 54. She had already been married for 23 years and raised two children, both of whom are now young adults, and says she is glad she waited so long because it allowed her to have a family, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

'I have no regrets'
In the video, which dates back to 2019, Levine gave a speech about gender care in which she said, "I have no regrets because if I had transitioned when I was younger, then I wouldn't have my children. I can't imagine a life without my children."
Despite her own experience, she thinks it should become easier for other children to start treatment as teenagers, even if it costs them their ability to have their own children later in life. In the speech, she said teenagers today aren't 'willing to do that'. "I don't know if I were 15 today if I would take so long."
'President Biden supports you'
The transgender health secretary is being slammed for promising that medically changing children’s genders will be normalized soon when she was invited to speak at a podcast hosted by Connecticut Children's Hospital on March 16 about the Florida Parental Rights in Education law and weigh in on the political implications of gender reassignment surgery that takes place at children's hospitals.
Levine also said that doctors offering gender-affirming care to youngsters have the full support of the Biden administration, saying, "I can say that you, the children that you serve, the young people that you serve, their families, and you all have support at the highest levels of the federal government." "President Biden supports you. I as the Assistant Secretary for Health, will support you, and I talk about this topic, everywhere I go, to get the word out", she added.
Looking at the video, social media users are pointing out the irony that she waited while pushing young children to get treatment. A user tweeted, "Kind of funny how all the people preaching others to transition and pushing it on children. Don’t actually do it themselves…" "Unbelievable. Yet she doesn't care if kids transition never being able to have children", another commented. While another user tweeted, "Biden Administration stinks of Hypocrisy".
