Recently, a plethora of workplace trends have emerged on TikTok to reflect the changing attitudes of Gen Zs and millennials in the workplace. 'Quiet Quitting', 'Rage Applying' and 'Bare Minimum Mondays' are some of the viral trends we have seen over the past few months.

These trends offer people an opportunity to think creatively about how to support the needs of their workforce better. These viral workplace trends represent a unique approach to work-related problems and situations, reflecting the values and priorities of younger generations. Let’s have a look at the three most popular workplace trends on TikTok.

1. 'Quiet Quitting'

The trend is all about emphasizing doing only what your job demands and nothing more: "Quitting doing anything extra." It aims at showing up for work but staying strictly within the boundaries of your job requirements. So no more helping out with additional tasks or checking emails outside work hours. A user wrote on Twitter, "Someone last week posted about ‘quiet quitting’. Saw this on TikTok l. This is what I did after my small breakdown last year. Counsellor talked to me about what the consequences of doing ‘just my work’ would be. Answer & proof: zero. I think I’m better at my job now."

This trend has gained popularity on TikTok in recent months. The drive behind this trend is to retain control of work-life balance and reject the notion that work is tied to one's identity.

2. 'Rage Applying'

'Rage Applying' means channeling your anger at your work or boss by applying to multiple jobs at the same time when you are dissatisfied with your current one. This career trend is for those who feel are not being appreciated by their superiors. The idea is to be aggressive in sending out your resume to several organisations to find a new job with a hefty pay hike quickly.

This trend became popular when a Tiktok user, Redweez, said in a video that she got a raise of $25,000 through “rage-applying.”The video has had more than two million views on TikTok and has been shared around 20,300 times.

3. 'Bare Minimum Monday'

It’s related to getting rid of your Monday blues! This trend involves doing the bare minimum amount of work on Mondays to ease the "Sunday irking," often felt on the Sunday before the start of a new workweek. Sometimes, employees can feel unmotivated or unproductive on Mondays, particularly during a daunting week ahead. An approach that eases into the workweek without the feeling of guilt can ease anxiety leading up to the intensity of the week ahead. This trend wants organisations to consider having less pressure of work on Mondays.

A user wrote on Twitter, "I saw a tiktok talking about “bare minimum monday” and this is the vibe for today. Doing what I can to survive."
