Earlier this week a trailer for Josh Trank's upcoming biographical crime movie 'Capone' was released and we had to double-check the cast list to know for sure that that old dilapidated gangster was Tom Hardy. Honestly, that's Tom Hardy? Wow. The man doesn't seem to have any limits as to what roles he can and can't do. A superhero? 'Venom'. A supervillain? 'The Dark Knight Rises'. A soldier? 'Black Hawk Down', 'Band of Brothers', 'Dunkirk'. Need we go on?

Hardy's an accomplished actor on stage, television, and film. Whether it's an action epic like 'Mad Max: Fury Road' or a rom-com like 'This Means War', Hardy excels in whatever role he's given and elevates the whole project to new heights. Just when you think he's set as a movie star he goes and does a TV show like 'Peaky Blinders'. The man defies typecasting and his self-transformation skills could give Johnny Depp a run for his money.

Well, at least he hasn't tried his hand at music, right? Oh wait, he collaborated with his friend Edward Tracy on a mixtape titled 'Falling on Your Arse in 1999' under the name "Tommy No 1 + Eddie Too Tall" and honestly, even there he does pretty well.

It's like even franchise rules don't hold the man down. In 2002, he played Reman Praetor Shinzon, a clone of USS Enterprise Captain Jean-Luc Picard in 'Star Trek: Nemesis' and fifteen years later he did a cameo as stormtrooper FN-926  in 'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' in a scene that was deleted from the final cut to the chagrin of fans.

Not only has the man bridged two franchises that have been at each other's throats since time immemorial, but he's also managed to make a powerful impression on both fan bases, despite technically not even appearing in the latter movie. And it's not like his skills only shine when he's in the lead role.

He was a dream in 'Inception', a revelation in 'Revenant' (to the point where he got nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor). The role doesn't matter, Tom Hardy makes every role he gets a treat for the audience no matter how big or small.

So now the question is what will he do next? 'Capone' is just a few months away from releasing on VOD. 'Venom 2' is currently scheduled to release in theaters on October 2. Plus, Hardy is in the running to be the next James Bond, a role that would fit him like a tailored suit.

It doesn't look like Hardy's going to be slowing down any time soon and it seems as if he's set to drop stellar performance after stellar performance for the foreseeable future. And boy, are we better off for it!

Catch Tom Hardy in 'Capone', releasing on May 12. Watch the trailer below:
