'Snowpiercer' Season 3 Episode 9: Melanie exposes Layton's lie after returning
Season 3 of 'Snowpiercer' has been teasing Melanie Cavill's return for a while now, keeping fans on the edge of their seats as they waited for her return with bated breath. That tease came to an end in Episode 9 of 'Snowpiercer' Season 3, bringing with it a payoff that was totally worth the wait.
Titled 'A Beacon For Us All,' Episode 9 of 'Snowpiercer' Season 3 begins with Layton, Ben, and Josie rescuing Melanie after finding her car on a parallel track. They find out that she survived the last six months by putting herself on suspension drugs, which helped her stay alive but unconscious for most parts. Recovering under Dr Pelton's care, Melanie is reunited with Alex and Ben, and she eventually ends up meeting Mr Wilford as well.

It's during her interaction with Mr Wilford that Melanie finds out about Layton's plans of leading the train to New Eden. She peruses the data and comes to a conclusion that the risk of journeying to New Eden isn't worth it as the odds of surviving there aren't high enough. Finding the mission to be suicidal, she talks to Layton about it at a party organized by Ruth to celebrate her return.
However, Layton wants to stick to his plan as he feels that New Eden has been the only ray of hope on the train. He adds that he wants to soldier through the risky journey as he doesn't want his daughter's world to be restricted to the thousand-odd cars of the Snowpiercer. He asks for Melanie to be a party to his lie but she opts to out him, believing that it will topple his mission that could end up killing the passengers.
Episode 9 of 'Snowpiercer' Season 3 ends with Melanie disclosing to the train that Layton hasn't been to New Eden nor does he have any concrete data to back his claim that life exists in the region, while Mr Wilford escapes from prison by poisoning the guards with LJ's help.
'Snowpiercer' airs Mondays at 9 pm ET on TNT.
