'Titans' Season 2 Episode 12 'Faux-Hawk' is all about suits and their importance to heroes who wear them

After constantly struggling with his demons, it took losing his suit for Hank to realize just how far he has fallen. That just goes to show how important these outfits are to the heroes who wear them, both as a tool for what they do and a reminder of why they do it.

What's a superhero without a suit, right? They provide protection, often come with cool features, and they're the most easily recognized part of your superhero identity. But there's a lot more to a suit than just how cool it looks.

'Titans' Season 2 Episode 12 'Faux-Hawk' gives us an intimate look into superhero suits, the people who make them and the heroes who wear them. The episode delivers a mix of humor and emotion with almost equal importance given to all the characters, which is a refreshing change.

Dick Grayson (Brenton Thwaites) is out of prison and ready to rise again after having fallen on some very dark times himself and he needs a new suit to help him start over. Dick talking to his "shoemaker" Stu (Currie Graham) about the Robin suit he burned has the same vibe as James Bond meeting with Q for a new spy car. It's a fun interlude that teases the Nightwing suit that will be appearing in the next episode.

The primary story of the episode follows the adventures of Alan Ritchson's Hank Hall / Hawk as he tries to find his lost suit. Hank gets more time in the spotlight than in any other episode of the season and Ritchson provides a solid performance as the former hero who now fights cage matches for drug money.

Hank's story really brings out the importance of a suit and as an extension, a sense of identity. Anyone can wear a suit and feel like a hero but an outfit can't give you a sense of purpose.

After constantly struggling with his demons and causing pain to both himself and the people around him, it took losing his suit for Hank to realize just how far he has fallen. That just goes to show how important these outfits are to the heroes who wear them, both as a tool for what they need to do and as a reminder of why they do it.

'Titans' Season 2 Episode 13 'Nightwing' will arrive on DC Universe on November 24.
