Beezin', a popular trend in the 2010s, has made its 2023 comeback on TikTok. The newest trend on the app is being deemed harmful by doctors. It involves the use of an extremely popular brand called Burt's Bees' lip balm. In a new trend known as beezin', some TikTok users are swiping the balm on their eyelids rather than applying it to their lips to create a variety of claimed effects.

Medical experts say that beezin' trend can cause infections and ulcers of the eye that can lead to permanent vision loss. However, Olivia J Killeen, MD, a clinical lecturer in the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at Michigan Medicine, warns that the trend is harmful and can cause chemical irritation to the eyelids.

Why are doctors advising against beezin' trend?

According to Michigan Medicine's Dr Olivia J Killeen, beezin' can lead to chemical irritation of the eyelids itself, resulting in redness, swelling, and inflammation. Also, she mentions how simple it is for cosmetics to inadvertently enter into the eyes themselves, Medical X Press reported. Hence, beezin' can result in eye surface burns, weeping, and redness. In extreme circumstances, it might cause scarring or visual loss.

This is only the most recent TikTok trend to draw criticism from medical professionals in the wake of the platform's widely popular 'BORG' drinking craze, which led to the hospitalization of 28 college students.

What parents can do to avoid mishaps?

There are certain things parents can do to prevent their children from viewing the beezin' video, though there is no guarantee of this, stated Parade. You can enable Restricted Mode on TikTok to limit exposure to material that might not be suitable for children. To activate Restricted Mode, follow these instructions:

1. On the TikTok app, select Profile.

2. At the top, click Menu.

3. Next select Settings and privacy.
