TikToker Rio Antone dragged for demanding gender-neutral restrooms for 'people like me'

Antone, who goes by @rioantone on TikTok, went viral when his rant was shared by the 'Libs of TikTok' Twitter handle

A bearded individual, identifying as gender non-conforming, sparked outrage and mockery after they demanded that the addition of gender-neutral bathrooms in public places become the norm.

TikToker Rio Antone goes by the handle @rioantone and has more than 12,000 followers on the platform. The self-professed "artist, educator, entertainer & evolutionist NON-BINARY KWEEN" went on a rant against conventional restrooms in a post on TikTok, demanding gender-neutral facilities everywhere for "people like me." The video subsequently went viral and drew the ire of critics, who offered various reasons why they thought it was a bad idea.

Antone's video rant was shared on Twitter by the popular account 'Libs of TikTok' on Monday, November 29. In the video, they say, "I think it's very funny that we have these options for men and women bathrooms but a lot of places still don't have gender-neutral restrooms, which is very weird to me because when I have to walk into a restroom, I have to choose - full of anxiety - which one it is I'm going to use because I'm always questioned, I'm always gawked at by somebody who thinks I'm in the wrong place, or maybe I've made a mistake here, or maybe I'm a little bit crazy or a bit of a 'predator'."

Antone continued, "So, for my safety, I have to always wait until there is a place where I can go in and somebody is not going to try to discriminate against me. This would be something that wouldn't have to worry about as a gender-non-conforming person, if there was a restroom designed for people like me, ok?" They added, "This is not a joke. This is my life. Get with the program."

Social media was inundated with criticisms of the gender non-conforming TikToker. "That's a good idea, get every business under the sun, no matter how small, especially the ones that have been struggling through multiple coof [cool] seasons; to dump $30k, maybe $50k on plumbing in an entire bathroom so ~1% of the population doesn't have their feelings hurt," one person responded on Twitter.

"Imagine any other animal opting out of having a gender. Kill humanity with fire before it's too late," another wrote. "I wish they designed houses where the top shelf was reachable for 5'7 people. We don't always get what we want, and the world can't change for you," another comment read.

"Why should I be forced 2 worry about YOUR safety when u have NO concern for mine. & y should I have concern over the design of MY world when u don’t have anything but disdain 4 those who r taken-a-back by your personal decision not 2 make a gender choice?" someone else added. "I don't think the bathroom is the most pressing issue for this individual lol" another user quipped.
 
"I thought it was trans-ist to provide a 3rd bathroom option, that the trans community was what they believed themselves to be & could freely choose which restroom to use??" another chimed in.
