Who is Tiger Worku?
The 20-year-old man who is the president of a local community group said, "I’ve been here all four nights" and added, "I’m just standing here today with soup for my family. And we’re just watching all of this unfold. It’s very unfortunate." At this time, he also winked at the camera before he continued, "I’m just standing here today with soup for my family. And we’re just watching all of this unfold. It’s very unfortunate."
CNN’s Sara Sidner then asks the protester, "You’re not planning on using that, are you throwing it at the police?" He responded, "Like I said, it’s for my family." The protests have been taking place for over 4 days now in response to a police officer shooting a young Black man at a traffic stop. The officer identified as Kim Potter had claimed that she had thought she was employing her taser but instead had ended up deploying her service weapon. She has resigned since and has also been charged with second-degree manslaughter.
The viral clip comes months after former President Donald Trump claimed that protesters threw cans of soup and tuna fish at police. Trump had said at a rally gathering, "They have cans of soup. Soup. And they throw the cans of soup... and then when they get caught they say, ‘No this is soup for my family.’ They’re so innocent. This is soup for my family. It’s incredible."
One user on Twitter commented, "Wait he’s like the hottest protester I’ve ever seen." Another wrote, "A working class hero is something to be." One user wrote, "Can confirm as his brother, that we definitely ATE that soup- and it was delicious (: "
