'Tiger King' Joe Exotic had ONLY threesomes with ex-husbands John Finlay and Travis Maldonado
After 'Tiger King' Joe Exotics's unusual, albeit illegal, polygamous gay marriage to two of his partners shocked viewers of the Netflix documentary based on his life, it was revealed that he had threesomes with his husbands.
Journalist filmmaker Louis Theroux learned of this intimate detail when he met Exotic, real name Joseph Maldonado-Passage, while making his 2011 documentary 'Louis Theroux Dangerous Pets.'
Theroux has claimed that the zookeeper would only engage in sex with his former husbands if both of them were present at the same time, same place, same bed.
“It works awesome because we’re all too tired to have sex,” Exotic reportedly told Theroux, who recently revealed the information during an interview with Weekend Australian.
Exotic, serving a 22-year prison term for 17 counts of animal abuse and two counts of murder for hire against animal rights activist Carole Baskin, married ex-husbands, John Finlay and Travis Maldonado, in 2014 in a joint ceremony.
After the 'Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness' documentary was released and subsequently went viral, Finlay told US Weekly that the trio's marriage was never meant to be legally binding. “The ceremony was a publicity stunt for his online TV series,” he said.
Finlay was a former employee at Greater Wynnewood Exotic Animal Park in Oklahoma, formerly owned by Exotic. He started working at the age of 19 in 2003. Maldonado, on the other hand, joined the staff in 2013, also at 19. After they married Exotic, it was revealed that both of them were heterosexual.
Exotic went onto marry Dillon Passage in 2017.
While Maldonado died after accidentally shooting himself in the head at the age of 23 in October 2017, Finlay was secretly having an affair with a female employee at the park. "John Finlay came out and said 'Look I got to tell you, I'm really not gay, I've been sleeping with the girl at the front desk,'" Rick Kirkham, a reality TV producer who worked on Joe Exotic's reality TV web series, recalled in the documentary.
After getting her pregnant, the two of them ran off together - an incident that Exotic claimed broke his heart. "He left me for a girl. I can't compete with that," he was seen lamenting on the documentary.
Finlay has since left the girl he originally ran off with, and got engaged to a new woman, Stormey Sanders. "The girl I ran off with, we had a kid, we spent three years together," Finlay explained to David Spade during a March 29, 2020, episode of his show, Lights Out with David Spade. "We never got engaged, never got married, anything like that." He added, "I will be married soon."
During a recent interview, he also revealed that he was finally clean after a six-year-long battle with substance abuse.
“I had just gotten away from Joe and started a new life,” Finlay recalled. “And my daughter was born, and everything around me just keeps having a domino effect of a more positive light on everything. Because my fiancee’s around me now, and she’s been a big help, and helping me get through everything that’s been going on. … She keeps me on my toes!”
