It's time for a new beginning. As Toby Damon (Chris Sullivan) and Kate Pearson (Chrissy Metz) welcome baby Hailey Rose into their lives, a lot may change in their lives and it may also give birth to new secrets. Going by the ‘This Is Us’ promo for the new episode, Toby seems to be hiding something from Kate.

Titled ‘The Ride’, the summary reads, “A series of car rides propels the Pearsons towards new stages of their lives.” In a 16-second clip, Toby is seen holding an adorable poster to welcome the little bundle of joy. “Hi Hailey, I'm your dad,” the banner reads as Toby quips, “You think could read this?” Kate then replies, “Oh babe, this is so sweet.” Toby says, “Just so she could pick me out in a crowd.”

What is Toby hiding from Kate?

Before Kate lets Toby hold their baby, we see a scene where he talks to someone on a phone call and quickly disconnects when he realizes she is coming. “I gotta go, we're at the hospital. Bringing the baby home today. Kate's here. Right here. So I gotta go,” he says in hushed tones.

That scene seems to have sparked many theories. What could Toby be hiding from Kate? One fan said “Who is Toby talking to. Sounds like something is up and I don't understand,” and another wrote, “I kinda hate how rushed this adoption story arc has developed for Kate and Toby. I wish they would work out their internal marriage issues before adding another baby into the equation.”

One viewer even went on to say, “I am not a fan of the Kate character. She is extremely self-absorbed. I did not care for the Toby character until after his medical emergency seasons ago. I really like Toby now.”

With all the issues yet to sort out, what secrets could Toby be keeping from Kate? It couldn't be a third person intruding into their life, could it? It could be related to Toby's work or a surprise he has planned for Kate.

Will Ellie want her baby back?

When Toby takes Hailey into his arms, he tells her, “You can call me dad or dada...” In a fraction of a second, Toby asks, “Where's Ellie?” Kate tells him, “She is signing the birth certificate and the relinquishment papers and she'll be right out.” Kate and Toby discuss how they need to be “extra sensitive” with her. “Leaving the hospital is the hardest,” Toby says but Kate is hopeful. “Hopefully for Ellie (Annie Funke), it will be easier because we will send photos and plan visits.”

Ellie then joins them and Toby happily says, “She's perfect,” Toby thankfully tells her. Ellie jokes about her second name and there seems to be a certain awkwardness among them. The trio tries to joyfully make the ride home but something seems off with Ellie.

Many viewers are worried if Ellie will come back for her baby. One said, “Wow. this is almost so hard to watch because of how real the awkwardness is.” Another posted, I can’t tell if she’s joking... Toby picked Rose, so why would she do that?” And a third commented, “Ugh I feel like she’s going to change her mind and try to get the baby back or something, I hope not.”

One fan begged, “Ellie, please don’t take this baby from Kate & Toby. It’ll break them, but more importantly, IT’LL BREAK ME!!!!!” And another thanked her, “This is so hard to let go your baby... Thank you Ellie, thank you for Kate and Toby. This s the most beautiful gift someone can ever make...”
