‘This is Us’ season 4: Kate and Toby's parenthood to new characters, everything we want to see when the show returns

There is much about the Pearsons family story that season 4 of 'This is Us' will reveal and we are here for it.
PUBLISHED AUG 23, 2019

Fans of ‘This is Us’ have been waiting impatiently for season 4, which is scheduled to premiere on September 24, 2019. With Rebecca’s (Mandy Moore) future hanging by a thread, it is with a sense of fear and apprehension that we look forward to the upcoming season. However, there is much about the Pearsons family story that season 4 will reveal and we are here for it.

Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Toby (Chris Sullivan) becoming new parents

It is after a lot of trouble, and patience that Toby and Kate were able to fulfill their dreams of becoming parents. In fact, there were many moments where we had feared for Kate’s life. Meanwhile, Toby, who wanted to increase their chances of getting pregnant, stopped taking the medicines for depression and hit some very low points in mental health. However, they persisted and were blessed with baby Jack, who was born prematurely. We know that he is safe now, but what does being new parents mean for Kate and Toby? It remains to be seen if the baby will take a toll on the couple, physically or mentally. Will we see Kate battling postpartum depression?

Metz has teased there is a lot that is coming at Kate and Toby this season, and we cannot wait to see if it has anything to do with their newborn.

Randall (Sterling K Brown) and Beth’s (Susan Kelechu Watson) rocky marriage

After years of bending over backward to accommodate the big dreams of her wonderful husband, Beth decided last season that enough was enough. She decided to make ballet her priority, while the rest of the family learns what it means to adjust and accommodate. However, they – especially Randall – realized just how easy she makes it all seem. Their marriage took a hit when neither of them refused to budge. And, in the end, it was Beth who had to come up with a plan to save their marriage and their respective dreams. She clearly loves her husband, but has Randall truly learned his lesson? Will they be able to stay happily married? Many fans noted that in one of the scenes from the future, Beth is not wearing her wedding ring then again she is going to be there for her mother-in-law. As confusing as it is, we want to know if  Randall and Beth will continue to be the power couple of the show.

(L-R) Chrissy Metz, Milo Ventimiglia, Parker Bates, Justin Hartley, Faithe Herman, Chris Sullivan, Mackenzie Hancsicsak, Hannah Zeile, Mandy Moore, Lyric Ross, Niles Fitch, Lonnie Chavis, Logan Shroyer, Eris Baker, Jon Huertas, Susan Kelechi Watson, and Melanie Liburd pose in the press room with awards for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series in 'This Is Us' during the 25th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards at The Shrine Auditorium on January 27, 2019 in Los Angeles, California. New and pivotal 'secret' characters joining the show

We have heard during the promotions and press events that 'This is Us' is introducing quite a few new characters, whose identities are fiercely hidden. They are expected to be pivotal in moving the story forward. It is understood that the first two episodes will be big and bold, and would offer a polarizing start to the season.  We do know that 'Once Upon a Time' star Jennifer Morrison has been roped in for a recurring role and although nothing is revealed other than her “substantial” presence on the show, our guess is, her story is tied with Kevin's (Justin Hartley).  In the end, there is one statement from Sullivan that we can hold on to until the season 4 premieres on September 24: “Wherever you think we are going, we are going in a completely different direction.”
