'This is Us' Season 4: Jon Huertas promises Miguel will get his due respect and hopes the show explores the male Latino character further

What the fans would also love to see on 'This is Us' is a bit of Miguel's life separate from the Pearsons, which would answer questions like how his marriage fell apart and why his children are indifferent to him in the present, and so on.

NBC's 'This is Us' has introduced us to some phenomenal human beings over the seasons, each impressive in their own ways. One character, who despite his patient demeanor and affable personality doesn't get his due respect, is Miguel (Jon Huertas), Jack's (Milo Ventimiglia) best friend and Rebecca's (Mandy Moore) second husband.

While fans of the show have shown him love, when it comes to the Pearsons, he is still wading through rough waters. However, this is going to change in season four, promises Huertas.

While in conversation with MEA WorldWide (MEAWW), he revealed that there is some stuff that he has already filmed for the upcoming season, which would help people better understand Miguel's perspective.

"[It] kind of starts to open people's eyes up to what may have started the beginning of Rebecca and Miguel's relationship... how their relationship started to change after Jack's death," he says.

He adds that the upcoming episodes will also give us a glimpse into the friendship between Jack and Miguel from really back in the day, from a time even before Rebecca came into the picture.

What fans would also love to see on the show is a bit of Miguel's life separate from the Pearsons, which would answer questions like how his marriage fell apart and why his children are indifferent to him in the present, and so on.

We might have to wait a while for those storylines, because Huertas says, "I don't think that we're getting into that quite yet this season. If it does happen, it could be at the end of the season."

There is no reason to lose hope just yet because as Huertas points out, Dan Fogelman and the writers have a tendency to keep the actors in the dark as much as the audience so that nobody gets any spoilers.

"We talked about seeing kind of the breakup between Miguel and Shelly (Wynn Everett) or just post what that might have been in Miguel's life and how he dealt with it, and his dating life after Shelly, and how Rebecca and Jack influenced his life. We talked about that but I don't know if we'll actually get him that season," he explains.

He elaborates, "There are so many storylines with so many characters that you can kind of just touch each character a little bit, but being Latino, I am hoping to see better-developed Latino characters, better representation in television."

He adds, "As an adult male Latino that is not something that I have always seen. What the industry is lacking is development with Latino characters and really getting to know them. I am hoping we can be one those shows that is hopefully developing an adult male Latino character much deeper than shows have done in the past."

We certainly hope so too. When 'This is Us' returns with season four, we will see how NBC does justice to Miguel as a character, and more importantly, as a Latino character. Make sure to tune in on Tuesday, September 24.
