Michelle Yeoh to join Netflix's 'The Witcher: Blood Origin', fans say 'excellent casting'

Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh who is internationally known for her stints in the James Bond film 'Tomorrow Never Dies' (1997) and martial arts film 'Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon' (2000), is all set to join the cast of Netflix's 'The Witcher' series. Netflix announced the news on Tuesday, July 6.

According to reports, Michelle Yeoh will play the role of Scían in the upcoming series 'The Witcher: Blood Origin'. The series is set in an elven world 1,200 years before the world of 'The Witcher' and will tell the story of the creation of the first prototype Witcher, and the events that lead to the pivotal "conjunction of the spheres," when the worlds of monsters, men, and elves merge to become one. 'Blood Origin' will be a six-part, live-action limited series, and a prequel to the hit Netflix series, 'The Witcher'.

The official statement said, "The Witcher: Blood Origin has cast Michelle Yeoh as Scían. The very last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves, she is an artist with the blade, on a deadly quest that will change the fate of the Continent." Explaining Michelle's character on the show, Netflix said in a statement, "Scían is the very last of her nomadic tribe of sword-elves. No one can come close to her artistry with the blade, and no one carries as much loss within their heart. When a chance presents itself to retrieve a stolen sacred sword, taken from her fallen tribe by nefarious means, she launches herself into a deadly quest that will change the outcome of the Continent." Michelle Yeoh's other upcoming projects include Netflix's 'Gunpowder Milkshake', James Cameron’s 'Avatar' sequels, and Marvel’s 'Shang-Chi'.

'The cast just got better'

Fans couldn't contain their excitement over the prospect of seeing Michelle Yeoh in 'The Witcher' series. One fan wrote, "The cast gets just better." Another tweeted, "Michelle Yeoh is perfect for this. Excellent casting decision." One fan commented, "I love Michelle Yeoh. She always makes any project better." Another tweeted, "The Witcher: Blood Origin prequel series taps Michelle Yeoh to play a badass sword-elf” SCREAAAAMMM." One tweet read, "I've been very much enjoying The Witcher, and now that Michelle Yeoh is going to be in it, I'll definitely be watching even more (okay I was going to do that before, but you get what I mean)."
