Before Episode 13, the last time we saw Michonne (Danai Gurira) was when she sailed away with Virgil (Kevin Carroll) who said that there was an island naval base. In need of weapons to defeat Alpha (who's dead now), he takes Michonne with him promising her weapons if she helps with the safe passage of his family.
In this episode, he revealed his true colors as he drugged Michonne and lied to her face. His family was dead, because of his own doing and the guilt had driven him to a point where he thought he would defeat the sword genius. "Virgil is USELESS as Eugene when we first met him. Someone get Rosita to be his personal trainer. #WalkingDead," tweeted a fan.
It turns out that while the Lap Trio - the other captive people - escape with Michonne, who convinces them not to kill him, Virgil is knocked out and locked up at the base. While the quad sails away on a repaired boat, Virgil insists on staying behind at the place his family passed away.
We next see Michonne and the Lab Trio set sail on the repaired boat. Despite the Lab Trio saying they’d be cool with their former friend/jailer coming along, he refuses, insisting that he needs to stay behind where his family died. "I honestly didn't see the swerve of Virgil being a top 5 asshole on this show so late in this show's run. But here I am. Surprised and upset! #WalkingDead," tweeted another fan.
He managed to drug Michonne using jimson weed and fans who rendered him useless had thoughts about that as well, "Zero reasons to let this man live except he got the hook up for the good drugs. Virgil the plug. #WalkingDead," tweeted a fan. Another livid fan tweeted : "Um... So who else fucking screamed when Virgil lied about, his family also lied about guns also locked Michonne in a room also put something in her food?! #WALKINGDEAD #TWD."
With all the drama, we're glad he was left behind, although we would have preferred him to be Michonne's last kill.
