'The Voice' Season 18: Andre puts up a good fight but Nick Jonas picks Tate as his team's battle round winner
For the second night of the battle rounds, Coach Nick Jonas teamed Tate Brusa and Andre Drerup together.
Both artistes possess very different skills and are completely different in terms of style and skills, so much so that even the Jonas brothers who were serving as advisors to Team Nick's contestants couldn't help but notice that their duet was "disjointed".
Andre and Tate had a lot of trouble connecting with each other and being in sync during the practice sessions. However, they were determined to put on a great show and that is exactly what they did.
Both artistes took to the battle stage with the song 'Circles' by Post Malone. Andre, with his clear voice, was seen belting one note after another with a lot of finesse.
Tate, meanwhile, was seen putting the advice he received about dealing with his changing voice and changes in body posture that could make a very big difference to his singing voice to very good use and it showed.
The rasp in his voice took his performance to the next level and he was exuding a lot of confidence while delivering the performance.
After the performance, all three coaches John Legend, Blake Shelton and Kelly Clarkson, noted that this was not the pairing that was supposed to be, given the highly differing nature of their voices.
Coach Clarkson said, "Anders you have a big ol' voice, there's so much power and it's so nice," However, she leaned towards Tate when it came to who did it better according to her.
She complimented Tate for a very impressive bass note that he was able to deliver at the end of the performance and also mentioned that he's someone she needs to watch out for. She added that both of their voices together was a "little chaotic" for her liking but maintained that both of them had solid voices, individually.
Coach Blake also leaned towards Tate but complimented Anders for his clear and strong voice. Coach Legend reiterated the fact that if both of them have any plans of touring together as a musical duo, now would be the time to can it.
For the battle, he leaned towards Anders. "Anders you are a very gifted vocalist. You can sing a lot of different genres and will sound really good. But Tate has a little bit more of a limited range but an interesting tone." Coach Legend who was of the opinion that Andre's power, clarity and vocal skills could carry him forward.
It was now time for Nick Jonas to choose but not before telling the other coaches to chill out with the "not meant to be a duo" comments.
He later went on to praise Andre for doing a fine job with a song that he was not very comfortable with initially. But for the winner, Nick chose Tate and noted that he is drawn towards the latter for the care that he exhibits for his craft and that he sees a little bit of himself in Tate.
Fans of the show agreed with Nick's decision to choose Tate as the winner of the battle. The 16-year-old artiste and his voice also reminded a fan of John Mayer while one fan also said that he could pass off as the fourth Jonas brother.
"Tate needs to sing a John Mayer song in the Knock Outs ...his voice reminds me of him so much.@nickjonas #VoiceBattles." The other fan said, "Tate could pass as the 4th Jonas brother #VoiceBattles."
One fan also compared him with Grammy-winning singer Harry Connick Jr but we think that is mostly for how he looks. We spot a similarity. Do you see it? Let us know in the comments.
