The second round of the battles continued on episode nine of ‘The Voice’ Season 21 where we saw singers like Carson Peters, Clint Sherman, Holly Forbes, and Wyatt Michael stepping up their game. Coach Ariana Grande later brought the young and energetic performers in the form of Hailey Mia and Raquel Trinidad as they went for a face-off on Rose Royce’s peppy number ‘Car Wash’.

The 13-year-old  Mia had performed Tate McRae's 'You Broke Me First' during the blind auditions and easily managed to impress the coaches. Trinidad, on the other hand, had cleared her blinds after thrilling the coaches with the song 'I Wish' by Stevie Wonder. The 23-year-old clearly had more chances to crack the battle round as she had more experience as compared to her teenage opponent and that’s exactly what happened when Ariana  picked Trinidad as the winner over Mia. However, a twist later saved Mia from going back home.

Ariana Grande picks Raquel Trinidad

After getting the right guidance from Ariana and her dear friend and mentor Kristin Chenoweth, the two singers mesmerized the coaches and the live audience with their powerhouse set during the battles. John Legend, Kelly Clarkson, and Blake Shelton praised Raquel and Hailey. The judges were especially taken aback by Hailey's performance since she is just 13.

Blake said it was a tough one and the difference was Raquel being ready and Hailey having room to work with. After much deliberation, Ariana ultimately picked Raquel as the right choice for her team. While we all felt bad for Hailey, Kelly jumped in at the right moment for the steal and saved her from going back home. Kelly told Mia that she thought she would be a good coach adding that she performed really well.

‘Great steal by Kelly Clarkson, Hailey Mia deserves it’

Social media users took to Twitter as soon as the battle between Raquel and Hailey ended. “Haley got set up that song was not a challenge for Raquel at all”, said one user as another shared, “Raquel won that for me. She was THE Voice in that battle.” One posted, “Great steal by@kellyclarkson. Hailey Mia deserves it. She could go far this season.”

The next one claimed, “Raquel is soo bad omg.” Whereas, another stated, “@kellyclarkson i love you for stealing Hailey Mia!!!!! She's my fave this season.” And, one concluded, “Raquel Trinidad vs Hailey Mia Love this song choice. Raquel was living her best life and so fun to watch. Hailey has a nice voice but held the notes and kept things a lil too legato for the music.”
