'The Voice' Season 17 contestants Katie Kadan, Will Breman, and Marybeth Byrd talk fan week and wanting to spend Thanksgiving with the Legend family
Members of Team Legend on NBC’s ‘The Voice’ Season 17, Katie Kadan, Will Breman, and Marybeth Byrd speak to MEA WorldWide about the songs that fans picked for them to sing during 'fan week' They also talked about being hopeful about scoring an invite to John Legend's house for Thanksgiving and what Christmas songs they hope to perform on stage.
When asked if they were worried about the fan picked songs, Katie who sang, 'Without You' by Badfinger, said, "I don't know if I was worried, I trusted my fans. I was shocked at what they voted for! They gave me a ballad, but I'm excited that they did. It was quite a moment."
Fans picked 'Light My Fire' by The Doors for Will and he talked about how he enjoyed it, "On one end, I'm not at all shocked that the fans gave me something that they wanted me to flip on its head, but on the other end I am grateful for that because I didn't want to go off and sing another Ed Sheeran. Doing this song was a lot of fun."
'Byrd watchers' didn't disappoint Marybeth when they picked, 'Stars' by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals. "I really loved the song choice that my 'Byrd watchers' picked for me. It was really in the pocket with who I am and who I wanted to be as an artist. There weren't any nerves going into it because I trust my fans. I feel like I've shown enough of myself on screen for them to really know who I am" she gushed.
While fans were confused about the 'shed/barn' comment by Will, he cleared it out saying, "My mom lived on a farm most of her childhood, and I get a lot of my sayings from her. It's just a nice way of saying we spend a lot of time in the 'shed', a lot of time rehearsing and working on this to make it shine."
Being part of Team Legend, the contestants hope to meet Chrissy Teigen, Luna and Miles. Katie hoped this would happen soon while Marybeth put it out there saying, "I hope John sees this interview, please let us meet your fam!" Teigen, known for her cookbooks and recipe Instagram highlights, was urged by Will for a Thanksgiving dinner invite, "As we look into the cameras glaringly... hopefully she invites us to her house for Thanksgiving!"
With the holidays coming up and Christmas being on everyone's minds, Will hoped he could cover 'Silver Christmas' while Marybeth said, "I really love 'Oh Holy Night' and so many renditions have been done of it, but I like Martina Mcbride's version."
