'The Voice' semi-finalist Marybeth Byrd went with her instinct and swept people off their feet with her 'Before He Cheats' performance

In an exclusive interview with MEA WorldWide (MEAWW), the 18-year-old contestant of Team Legend talks about her musical inspiration, her growth as a singer and having an emotional moment on stage

As the hit singing reality show slowly comes to its season finale, we discover some of the most incredible personalities and get up close with them. Semi-finalist Marybeth Byrd is one of them.

MEA WorldWide (MEAWW) recently got into a candid conversation with the 18-year-old singer from Arkansas. In the semi-final round of Season 17, Byrd gave an upbeat and sassy performance for the first time on the show and swept everyone off their feet.

When asked what inspired her performance that night, she says, "I have always loved Carrie Underwood and have grown up on this song. I just wanted to do an upbeat song that energizes the audience because they haven't seen that side of me yet. So I did the best I could and had a lot of fun up there.”

It was indeed an incredible performance from the young singer and we were surprised to learn that she never looked up any reference for her on-stage sassiness.

Byrd says that she never referred to anything or anyone and went ahead with what she felt would make it look great on stage. From the nose snarl to the expressions, she practiced all by herself and put out her best version for the live performance.

As a singer, we have observed how Byrd has gone through a growth curve over the season. So, we cannot help but ask about the one thing that she would take away from her experience on the show.

She humbly responds with, “As an artiste, I have grown so much in believing in myself, gaining confidence in myself and meeting some incredible human beings. I have learned to overcome people discouraging me.”

When it comes to earning a huge fan following, Byrd scores on that front too. She calls them "Byrd watchers" and she is overwhelmed by their messages, posts and all the love she gets from them and from people back in her hometown in Arkansas.

Watch Marybeth Byrd and her musical talent in the upcoming episodes of 'The Voice'. The Finale Part 1 airs on December 16 only on NBC.
