HOUSTON, TEXAS: A shocking turn of events has unfolded in the case of Rudy Farias, a 25-year-old man who was recently found in a disheveled state outside a church in Houston. Initially believed to be a missing person for eight years, Farias has now come forward accusing his own mother, Janie Santana, of holding him hostage inside their home and subjecting him to drugging and sexual abuse.

When Farias was discovered last week, his mother expressed relief and gratitude, claiming it to be a miracle that her missing son had been found. She asserted that he was "non-verbal." However, the situation took a dark and bizarre turn when Farias accused his mother of captivity and abuse, including forcing him to "play daddy" while naked in bed, treating him as a slave, and administering hallucinogenic drugs.

Conflicting Reports on Disappearance

The case becomes further convoluted as it was revealed that Santana had reported Farias missing in 2015 when he was 17. Contradicting her claims, neighbors have stated that they regularly saw Farias during the years he was supposedly missing. During the time of his disappearance, Santana informed officials that Farias had been struggling with depression and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) since the death of his brother in a motorcycle accident in 2011, an incident that Farias reportedly discussed with neighbors. Adding to the complexity of the situation, Farias' father, Rudolph Farias III, a 21-year veteran police officer with the Houston Police Department, tragically died by suicide in 2014 while facing an internal affairs investigation. The circumstances surrounding his death may provide additional context to the current allegations and ongoing investigation.

Both Farias and Santana met with Houston police on Wednesday, where Farias was seen hiding his face under a blanket as he was escorted out of a Houston hotel by counselor Quanell X, who became emotional while describing his conversation with Farias. Journalist Grizzy Castillo's Hood News posted footage showing Farias being led outside the hotel, indicating that he left with his mother. Expressing concern for Farias' safety, Grizzy stated, "Is Rudy safe? We don't know, we don't know his mom's with him, you tell me." Grizzy also claimed, "I'm worried she's going to try and shut him up in a more permanent way." It remains unclear where Rudy went after being questioned.

Quanell X Speaks Out

During a press conference outside the hotel, Quanell X revealed that Farias had only spoken up about the alleged abuse after being separated from his mother for questioning. Quanell, acting as a mediator between the family and the police, shared that Farias had requested a private conversation with him. It was during this conversation that Farias reportedly disclosed that he had never gone missing and had been coerced by his mother to live in their bed, acting as a surrogate husband. "I never heard of a mother doing to a child what this woman did," Quanell X told ABC 13. "That boy needs to go to the best drug rehab and best psychological, mental health facility we can find for him. He's a good kid. That kid was just severely abused."

When asked about the sexual assault claims, Quanell stated, "Let me ask you a question - if your mother is tongue kissing you in the bed with her naked, what the hell is that? This is sick." Farias alleged that he was found by the police because he had stolen his mother's car in an attempt to escape her clutches. The discovery of his mother's credit card, issued two years prior, in his possession raised questions about the timeline of his disappearance. Quanell asserted that Santana had kept her son hidden, convincing him that he was being pursued by law enforcement and that he would be arrested and imprisoned if found. He further disclosed that Santana would make him wait for her at her workplace, a security company, and subjected him to punishment by locking him in a room repeatedly. "He said he just got tired of her not respecting his boundaries and he wanted his own life," Quanell X said. "His exact words were, 'I was tired of living like a slave.'"

On the day of his discovery, Farias was found unresponsive outside a church, prompting a concerned individual to contact the police. Officers identified Farias through a necklace he was wearing, which belonged to his late brother, and promptly notified his mother of his whereabouts. Santana claimed that Farias exhibited signs of severe abuse, including cuts, soft tissue tumors, swelling on the soles of his feet, and various bruises and cuts on his body.

"Rudy is in pretty bad shape, he has cuts, soft tissue tumors, small openings and swelling on the soles of his feet, along with bruising, old and new cuts/scrapes on his body, old dry blood on his head and hair, he has very very dark complexion now almost unrecognizable," Santana said. "God only knows what he has endured during his time away from home." Santana described her son as being in a state of distress, flinching at physical contact and assuming a fetal position. She stated that he referred to himself as Julio Torres and believed himself to be 14 years old. The extent of Farias' pain and suffering during his years away from home remains unknown, leaving his mother anguished and concerned.

Neighbors Speak Up

In a peculiar twist, neighbors contradicted Santana's claims of her son's disappearance. Kisha Ross, who resides on the same street as Santana, told ABC 13, "He used to come in my garage, chill with my cousin, son, and daughter." She added, "That boy has never been missing." Broderick Conley, Ross's cousin, also said he used to regularly hang out with Farias and remembered "laughing" and having "good times." That said, the case grew even stranger when Houston authorities divulged that a "family member" had called police in 2018 to report that Farias had been staying behind their residence. When officers responded to the scene, however, they did not find Farias.

Amidst mounting questions regarding Farias' whereabouts over the past eight years, Santana deleted a GoFundMe account created to cover his medical costs, further fueling speculation and confusion. As investigations into the allegations of captivity, abuse, and the true nature of Farias' disappearance continue, Quanell X expressed his belief that Santana should be apprehended based on the harrowing accounts provided by Farias. "Based on what that boy told me, I don't see why she's not in handcuffs right now," Quanell said. "He was petrified but the minute he was by himself he calmed down," the activist added. Houston police are talking to Santana about the allegations against her at the time of publication.
